Me

I will.

I’d much rather video chat with her than go out. All around me, my teammates planned post-game festivities. Carlos was trying to get everyone to go ride a mechanical bull. Though several players, mostly the ladies, had other plans. They often did things together.

Chet

Great game. Keep it up.

My agent was happy with my playing? Amazing.

AJ had called several times. Worry burrowed inside me. Also, the pictures of goats in pajamas and baby cows in sweaters made me so curious. He’d said something about it when we’d talked before the game, but I had no idea what was actually happening there.

“Is everything okay, Pepperjack?” I called him back, belly twisting. We weren’t going home tonight since we had another away game.

“She sent cows to my fucking office. Did you know she was doing that?” AJ sounded more frustrated than mad.

The pictures. Oh! I laughed. “She sent cows to your work? Shit, man, that’s–”

“Not just cows. Baby mini cows in sweaters. Also, goats and bunnies. Outrageous.”

“You did tell her she owed you cows,” I replied, trying to stifle my chuckle. Iconic.

“This still doesn’t make me like her,” he grumped. “It’s a good thing my sister had space for everything.”

“Okay. I’ll have her try harder. Making things right is important to her. Do you like cake pops?” I teased. Actually, he’d devoured one she’d made, but hadn’t known she’d baked them.

“Grif.” Sheer frustration filled his voice.

“Sorry. I want you two to like each other. Look, she thought the cows had been sent, and it tore her up that they hadn’t,” I explained as I made the picture of the bunny shitting on his desk my lock screen photo.

He sighed. “Whatever. Um, that was a good game.”

“Thanks,” I told him. We talked a little longer.

“I miss you. Good night,” he told me.

“Good night. I miss you, too. Next time you tell someone they owe you cows, please specify that they shouldn’t go to your workplace.” I ended the call, laughing, not able to resist teasing him. Some of my teammates looked at me.

Carlos started laughing. “Who got cows at work?”

“My packmate,” I chuckled.

Dean looked at me from his place with Jonas across the aisle, where they were snuggling. “Verity sent cows to AJ’s office? Wasthatwhat he was ranting about?”

“Yep. Mini cows in sweaters.” I showed him the photo, snorting with laughter.

“Oh, yeah, he was complaining about that earlier. He did tell her she owed him cows, so I don’t know why that surprised him. I appreciate her taking care of this so quickly.” Jonas shrugged.

That was my Kitten. Cows in his office. I chuckled again.

When we arrived at the hotel, Jonas hauled Dean off to his room. I went to mine, which, as usual, adjoined theirs. Deanwould sleep where he wanted. Sometimes we’d sleep in the same room.

If only AJ was here. We could all be together–and I could hear more about cows being delivered to his office.

I unlocked the adjoining and took a long, hot shower. Afterwards, I pulled on sweats and a NYIT sweatshirt. She’d given it to me yesterday, drenched in her scent.

The team group chat was buzzing, and I had several texts inviting me to go out.
