Chapter Seventeen
Thunder woke Lexie. She blinked and looked around as lightning flashed. Orienting herself, she lifted her head from the pillow and sat up. She felt deliciously relaxed in a way she hadn’t in a long time. The incredible experience with Kade came back to her and she smiled. He’d been alternately gentle and fierce, almost turning her inside out.
Turning around, she saw Kade’s side of the bed was empty and wondered where he was. She rose and then stopped. What happened now?
Blowing out a breath, she opened one of Kade’s drawers and found a t-shirt. She smiled as she slipped on an LA Dodgers shirt. She’d have to harass him about his team, even though she didn’t follow baseball.
Leaving the bedroom, she followed the sound of music. It was coming from the direction of the deck. Why was Kade outside in the rain? Drawing closer, she recognized Elvis’ “Blue Suede Shoes” and smiled at hearing the golden oldie. Glancing at the kitchen clock, she saw that it was almost three o’clock. It wasn’t surprising that she’d slept so long after all the pleasant exertion she’d shared with Kade.
As she walked towards the deck, she noticed the slight burning sensation along the inside of her upper thighs from Kade’s beard. Memories of the languid way he’d pleasured her made her tingle. She’d like a repeat of that.
Stepping out onto the deck, she saw that it was wet, but that the clouds were moving off. The section of deck nearest to the house was almost dry, thanks to the huge awning overhead. She caught the savory scent of meat and forgot about the weather.
Kade stood at a grill, tending to some fantastic-smelling food. He was shirtless and his back muscles flexed as he moved. She had a sudden urge to bite him and run her hands over his powerful body.
He must’ve heard her because he turned and smiled. “Hi, sleepyhead.”
“Hi. How long have you been up?”
She reached his side and he bent down to plant a firm kiss on her lips.
“About an hour. How do you feel?”
The concern in his eyes was sweet and touching.
“Wonderful.”
His smile widened and her heartbeat went a little erratic. “Ditto. I see you found something to wear.”
She smirked. “I just grabbed the first thing I found. Your taste in baseball teams sucks.”
He pointed his spatula at her. “Don’t knock the Dodgers.”
Chuckling at his response, she motioned at the grill. “What’s under that lid?”
“Burgers. I figured you’d be hungry. I know I worked up an appetite.”
Lexie fought back a blush. “Yeah, I’m starving.”
“Well, it won’t be long until they’re ready. I’ll put the fries on in a few minutes.”
Lexie’s mouth watered even more. “Homemade French fries?”
Kade nodded. “I do them in an air fryer. They taste awesome and they’re a lot healthier. No oil or grease.”
“Are you a healthy food nut?” she teased.
“Somewhat, I guess. I watch my diet because of training.”
“But you eat burgers.”
Kade arched an eyebrow. “Ninety percent lean Angus beef and low-fat organic cheddar cheese.”
Lexie wrinkled her nose. “You can keep the cheese. Organic stuff tastes like shit.”
Kade lifted a piece of aluminum foil off a plate. Several slices of cheese lay on it. “Try some.”
Lexie gave him a dubious look but tore off a corner of one piece. She put it in her mouth and groaned. It wasn’t as tasty as regular cheese, but it wasn’t gross. “Not bad.”
