All I feel through my body is two thoughts—
Kill. Protect.
And then, both Highers and the guard turn around from the table, sensing someone else in the room. Their eyes widen briefly in the presence of someone unknown, but I snarl at them, feeling Runa so close to the surface it feels like she will burst out.
“Who the fuck are you!” Frederick demands as his guard unsheathes his blade.
Guess there is no hiding now.
Twenty Five
Rhea
I move my mask down and remove the hood from my head. I growl low, my lips peeling back as I bare my teeth at them.
I sense the air change around me instantly. Malice and a wrongness trying to suffocate me. It’s like a blanket of invisible thickness that coats my skin. Coats the area as the Highers turn to fully face me.
“Well if it isn’t Lasandrhea,” Higher Mathew says, a grin splitting his lips.
I can still hear the beasts raping the females, still hear them cry as they have no choice but to be taken by those monstrosities.
I need to help them, but they need to tell me fully what they plan to do with Kade. Why are they doing this to begin with?
I won’t make the same mistake I made with Maize.
“Now, isn’t this a surprise,” Frederick hums and moves away from the table that had him so occupied. Another snarling grunt sounds, and his lips tilt into an arrogant smirk. “Do you like the new and improved rogures, Lasandrhea?” he asks, and my body jolts.
New and improved?
“Rhea, what are you doing!”Josh shouts down the link, and I know he’s readying to come out of hiding.
“Stay there,”I commanded back.“They do not know anyone else is here.”
I say nothing to Frederick, sensing the Elites still hiding behind the cells that he and the others haven’t noticed. What I have noticed, however, is more of the Highers guards entering the room from another door at the back. Their armor on and blades ready as they form a half-circle behind Frederick, Mathew, and what must be the head guard of their squad.
“Not that I am in any way complaining about you being here, in fact, this is perfect,” Frederick says as he waves a hand to his side. Mathew’s smile is sinister as he moves over to the right and crouches before a large grate. “Not only will Lord Higher reward us for your delivery, but you can be introduced to your new life.”
“Which is what,” I say between clenched teeth.
“A breeding body. A hole for another to fuck. Don’t worry though,” he says, his eyes changing to reassurance. “We can heal any rips or cuts. We will look after you.”
“Why are you doing this, what is it that you want?”
Mathew moves his hand over the grate, a rune appearing before it disappears and the sounds of growls reach the room. Many. So fucking many.
Frederick smirks. “The next generation will be powerful. Those that don’t make the cut will go to Lord Higher, he likes to get them around eight weeks before he does their check.”
Eight weeks for what…
“Why must the next generation be stronger?”
Mathew lifts the grate and reaches a hand inside while I watch intently, my heart pounding with the movement. He lifts his hand out and moves further back, revealing a chain. Lifting his other arm, dark purple strands pour out of him, and I suck in a sharp breath as the room fills with that power.
It feels like mine and Darius’s magic that was given from the Gods.
How did they get that power?
My eyes snap to Fredericks for a moment as he laughs. “They need to be stronger for what we want.”
