“You will die by my hand, not by my power.”
“Oh sonoble,” he taunts. “I wonder if you will be so noble when I rip into your cunt!”
He’s on the attack now, and out of the corner of my eyes I see rogures coming toward me, toward Runa.
“I’m coming,”Darius says, voice frantic.
“You won’t touch me, ever again,” I say, my voice strong.
I swing my blade, barely missing his stomach and he jumps back, then raises his own blade to try and come down on my head. I block it, swinging my leg out to kick his thigh. It connects and he grunts, wavering for a second and I push him back with the sword.
His eyes flash a hint of fear, and I take advantage of it. Revel in it.
“I’m not a child anymore, I am notchainedanymore.”
“You will be!” he spits, and I push him back again before I take an opening and swing at him. My fist connects with his cheek, making his head swing to the side. Then I do it again and again, feeling the bone crunch.
I rush for him, next, ready to strangle the life out of him when the rogure that was protecting him all this time, lunges for me.
We tumble, rolling into the dirt and I can hear Darius shouting in my mind, his worry evident in his tone.
My power comes to my hands and I drop my blade in favor of having them both on anywhere I can touch the rogure.
I can’t see anything, darkness surrounds me as we are in the fray of the fight, bodies and creatures surrounding me, closing in. Something stabs into my legs, like it’s crushing them and I cry out.
I hear the roar from Darius, feel his power coming towards me as I press into the rotting flesh and let it take the brunt of my magic.
“I’m coming!”
“Get Patrick!”I shout down the link to Josh and Darius.
We cannot lose him.
The rogure squeals, its body twitching and shaking, frantically trying to move and get away from the damage I’m causing, but Darius’s power is there next, rising from below me and encasing me in its protective hold.
The rogure makes another twitch before it stops moving altogether, its dead weight now at my side.
“Release the barrier, Darius,”he does, but I realize it’s only because he’s at my side, dragging me up and frantically checking me.
“I’m fine,” I tell him, readying myself. “We need to…No.” My eyes are on Patrick— on the stone he’s now holding as Drax and Runa close in on him.
“Until we meet again, cousin.” And then he’s gone.
Ported out like the fucking coward he is.
Sixty Eight
Darius
I’ve come to realize that seeing my little wolf upset makes me damn near feral, and since those sad eyes met mine after her cousin ported out, I knew I couldn’t sit by and see that look on her face any longer without tearing something apart.
So I will bring him to her. I will give her the revenge she deserves.
“Are you sure he will be here?”Leo asks down the link.
“He would tuck tail and take his ass home, too ashamed to face Charles right now after losing that amount of men and rogures.”
And he will. He failed his Lord Higher and is probably taking his time to come up with a good enough excuse as to why so many were killed.
