He turns toward me, his eyes dropping to my lips. “Little wolf—”
A squawk has our heads shifting as the dark bird comes flying between two homes and landing in front of us. My breathing picks up as I spot the rolled up letter tied around his neck, and I bend down quickly, petting his head in a calm manner even though my heart feels like it’s about to explode from my chest.
“Hi, Illium.”
He squawks, bouncing around my hand in excitement. I scratch under his beak, and then gently take off the leather strap around his neck. Darius assesses the area, like an enemy is about to jump out at us as I roll out the paper between my fingers.
Sucking in a breath, I read the contents and stand, handing it over to Darius with shaky fingers.
“What is it?” he asks, eyes reading.
“Hope,” I whisper. “It’s hope, Darius.”
“Can we trust this?” He reads the contents again.
“Of course. He has helped me so much over the years. We just have to wait for him.” I point to the place mentioned.
Darius’s jaw ticks. “I will come with you.”
“That’s a given, that’s why I said we.”
I know he would never let me go on my own.
“Okay,” Darius says, pulling out a port stone. “We will have some time to wait before I can look around the area while we do.”
“It will be—”
I’m squished, the breath halting in my lungs and then we are on grassland.
I grip Darius’s arm tighter then I should, glaring at him but he pays me no mind, immediately looking around.
I sigh, redoing my ponytail and sitting my ass on the ground.
Damn males and their Alpha bullshit.
I huff and fold my arms.
Yes I’m acting like a child. Nor do I care.
He should at least let me finish what I was saying.
“Do not pout, you know I find it adorable.”
I scowl. The asshole doesn’t even look at me when he says it.
He chuckles as he walks around the area, high alert as he scans through the trees. We are in the clearing near my old home, where I first saw Darius after escaping Wolvorn castle.
I smile as I remember Damian choking on grass.
Good times.
Darius comes back to me and sits down, his magic coming out to wrap around my thigh.
“Still pouting I see.”
Hmph. Yes I am.
Darius’s arm comes around me and then I’m falling backwards into the grass.
