“We do not answer to you, traitor,” the male spits, but a black blur is suddenly over his mouth. His eyes widen in panic as he lifts his hands to pull it away, but he isn’t strong enough to remove Darius’s magic.

The woman’s eyes start to water as her breathing picks up in fear.

“We… we had a visitor when she was born, he blessed her and said he would come back in a few moon cycles to see if she would be suitable.”

“Suitable for what,” I grind out as Darius eyes me.

“For… for him. Or more, for helping him. I don’t know,” she rushes out, looking at the male as he still struggles.

“Then what happened,” Darius barks at her when she doesn’t continue.

“He came back, and he said she would be a good fit.” Bile rises in my throat. Darius moves a little of his magic down to the male’s neck when she halts her words. She rushes over to him, trying to help. “Please, let him go.”

Darius doesn’t let up.

“Speak,” he demands.

“He wanted her, and said he would give us a great reward for helping.”

She didn’t…

“What reward?” Darius asks.

“Three hundred gold coins and we would be exempt from paying taxes.”

The breath stalls in my throat.

Fury pours in my veins.

“You gave your daughter away for that?” My magic swirls dangerously inside of me, my voice shaking with anger. A cool glide against my hand helps me focus on it, and I know Darius is trying to help soothe me but it’s not really working.

“You have to understand, we had nothing,” she tries to defend her actions. “We barely had anything to eat when he came to us.”

“So you do anything you can,” I growl, stepping up against the counter to face her. “You bribe, you steal, you beg. You don’t give away your fucking child!”

“What does it matter to you,” she seethes, eyes blazing. “My daughter is mine, so I can do what I want with her. It has nothing to do with you.”

“You sold your child for a measly three hundred coins,” Darius murmurs, looking around the space. “You seem to be doing well for yourself.” His sarcasm isn’t missed. “Was it worth it?”

“Fuck you,” she snaps. “We may be struggling now, but we ate well foryears. And we didn’t have a whiny baby in our ears all day and all night, wanting to be cuddled, wanting to be fed. Do you know how fucking annoying that is—” Her eyes widen as a gasp comes from her.

Her hands go to her throat, blood seeping through her fingers as her eyes widen in realization. I stare at her with cold eyes.

“You did not deserve a child,” I tell her, thoughts of Kade running through my mind. He wasn’t even my blood son, but I wouldneverdo what she did. I would die before then. “Your wrong doings have caught up with you, your punishment is death.” My voice is calm, no hesitation as I watch the life bleed from her eyes as my arm drops, the blade that was on the counter dropping to the floor along with it when I let it go.

Her body falls, disappearing behind the counter and my breaths come out noisily.

No essence comes from her, she will join the below.

Darius sighs. “That will be messy to clean up, little wolf.” My eyes go to his, but he doesn’t reprimand me for what I just did, in fact, the asshole adjusts himself and then rounds the counter.

The male is openly sobbing behind his magic that is still on his mouth. And Darius lifts a hand, removing it.

“Oh Gods, you killed her.”

My lips peel back in a snarl. “She deserved nothing less.”

He backs up, but Darius’s hand is around his throat in the next second, halting him. “Where is your child now?” he demands, but the male is still sobbing, his eyes going to the body on the floor. “Where?”
