I take a peek at him, seeing him fully coated in his power, two large tails at his back, eyes wild as he snarls and growls, covering Charles’s barrier in complete darkness.

All I can see is the glowing, green eyes.

He’s out of control.

“Forgive me,” I say to him, but it’s like he can’t even hear me as he digs his fingers into the barrier.

Charles fills the space with glowing, purple balls as he inhales deeply at my head and pinches my hip. I tremble, revulsion spreading through me as his hand slides up my back to the base of my neck.

He yanks my head back. “I cannot wait to get what has been rightfully mine.” His dark eyes bore into mine. “You shall bare my children, and others of course when I allow it.” I whimper. “It was so easy to get Mazie to swap out a memory stone to bring you here. So easy to have Alpha Darius see it, think you a traitor and then punish you. The way your back split, the way your blood landed prettily on the floor of my hall.” He dips his head. “If Mazie didn’t report back to me of her findings in Eridian, I would have never found you, dear girl. How brave of you to tryand take on the Elites, my pets.” I struggle in his grip and he tuts at me. “That was your downfall, and my fortune. All was so easily manipulated to get you where I wanted you. Within my grasp again.” He inhales at my neck and bile rises in my throat. ”But first, we need to get that mutt off of you, though. To begin what was always meant to be.”

His teeth nip at my neck, just below my ear, and I freeze.

That’s Darius’s spot.

That’s his bite mark.

This is his scent.

No.

It’sourscent.

When he bites deeper, when he breaks skin…something inside of me snaps.

“That is not yours to take.” I say it quietly, a murmur, really.

Charles pulls his head back, his brows furrowed at my tone.

“What? Speak up!” His grip on my hair tightens painfully, but I look up at him, eyes watering from the harsh grip, but my voice is strong.

“That is not yours. To. Take!” I shove at his chest, causing him to stumble back in surprise, then, I lean back into the barrier. With only one cuff on my wrist in his careless impatience and glee at having me, my power is still there, still useful.

I push my magic into the barrier through my back, merging with Darius’s, and the ground shakes. In the next moment, I’m engulfed by Darius as he wraps his arms around me and pulls me through, shattering the barrier completely and into the safety of his embrace.

I waste no time as I lift a hand to Charles, sending a blast of power right into his chest as his eyes widen in shock.

This time, it’s not blue.

It’s not black.

It’s purple.

Taking Darius’s magic as if it were my own, it connects within me, building and merging into something more than my own ever was.

This isourpower.

I walk toward Charles as he stumbles back, but I send another blast out, knocking him down. He tries to put up another barrier, and I even see dark patches following as we walk, calling more rogures, but he is not what we are.

We are Heirs to the Gods, our power was given—not stolen.

Darius’s hand comes out at my side, sending more power to Charles and he sweeps him off of his feet, pinning him to the floor, elation fills me.

“Release me!” Charles screams, trying to call his power but every time he does, Darius and I call our own, wrapping it around him and snuffing it out. “You cunt, release me at once!”

Darius breathes heavily into my neck, his tails coming around me and I stroke them in reassurance as Charles continues to scream at us.

He isn’t going anywhere.
