“That would be illegal in a lot of different ways, Zoey.”
“As if you care.”
His gaze finally lifted from my chest. “Not everyone wants to stream every bit of their lives like us.”
“It’s nothing weird. I’m just checking in on a friend.”
“Oh, the hot one?”
“Why do you always call Emma that? You’ve never seen her.”
“Sure.”
I just stared at him. “What the hell does that mean?”
He shrugged. “Nothing. So you want to spy on her? And here I was this whole time thinking you were into me.” He pretended to look offended.
“You know I’m into you.”
“Then why don’t we circle back to you touching yourself?”
“Stop it. Hey, eyes up here.” He’d started staring at my boobs again. “I’m just worried about her. She started dating this…guy.” Why wasn’t I allowed to tell anyone about this? I was bad at secrets. Emma knew this! “And I don’t trust him.”
“Okay, well give me her number.”
“I’m not setting you up with my bestie.”
Grudge laughed. “That’s not why I was asking. You know I only have eyes for you.” He winked at me.
He absolutely did not. We were just friends. Who sometimes fooled around from thousands of miles away.
“I need her number so I can hack her phone. If you really want me to do that. Because it’s definitely an invasion of her privacy.”
Privacy schmivacy.I gave him her number.
He took a sip of his energy drink as he swiveled his chair to face another computer monitor. “Okay, it’s going to take me a few hours…”
“I don’t have a few hours, Grudge! She might be dead!”
“What the hell kind of creep is she dating? Should you maybe be calling the cops instead?”
I could call Officer Davis. But his wife really hated it when I called in the middle of the night for favors. It was like she thought we were sleeping together or something. I had no idea why everyone always just assumed I slept with married men. That was crossing a line. Besides, I was a little busy fucking random strangers on the internet.
I heard the front door opening. “Shit,” I whispered. My heart started racing in my chest. Who the hell was that?! I stood up and grabbed my laptop.
“What?” he whispered back, like this was some kind of weird game.
“Grudge, someone just snuck into my house. I have to go.”
“Wait, what? Zoey!” he yelled as I switched off my laptop, ending our chat and signing me out of my site.
I knew Callum Walsh was bad news. But I wasn’t going down without a fight. I grabbed the garlic powder that I’d hidden in my desk drawer.
