“Where is he?” she repeats, not meeting my smile. She doesn’t wait for an answer either, she just storms past both Lola and me and heads toward Sully’s office.
“What’s happening?” I ask Lola.
She shrugs as Sloane reappears, with Sully by her side, dragging him by his burgundy tie down the hall.
“This is the weirdest day,” Lola mutters, head tilted as we watch Sloane slam the door to the tiny computer closet.
I slide my hands around her waist. “Want to continue what we started in your office?”
Lola wraps her arms around my neck and leans in to kiss me right when another voice interrupts us.
“For fucks sake, can everyone stop kissing!” We turn to see Brian who has a smudge of red lipstick on his collar.
“Oh my God, did you and Amy?—”
He shakes his head wildly. “What? No! Why would you say that?”
Lola points to his collar. “You’ve got lipstick.”
He glances down and growls. “That’s ketchup because Amy tried to feed me one of her fries and I refused to play the choo-choo game.”
Lola bursts out laughing.
“It’s not funny!” Even as he says it, he starts to smile.
“It really is funny,” I tell him.
“No!” We hear Sloane yell. “I brought you into this damn closet to sayI’m pregnant.”
Every single one of us seems to have the same idea as we rush over to the closet door. “Did she just say she’s pregnant?” Lola whisper-hisses.
Brian pushes her forward. “Get closer, what are they saying now?”
“Oh shit. You’rethe incubator,”we hear Sully reply.
“No he didn’t!” Lola hisses.
“Incubator?” Sloane screeches.
Oh bollocks. I’ve got to fix this. Sully is fucking this all up. I reach for the door knob without thinking and Lola and Brian fall forward, right at Sloane and Sully’s feet.
“Cal!” Lola yells up at me.
Later I’ll feel bad that I did that, but right now I’ve got to save my brother. “Sloaney, you’re pregnant?” My arms spread in excitement. Then it dawns on me what this means. “Wait, if you’re pregnant, that means you have to move in!”
“Oh shit, he’s right,” Brian says from the floor next to Lola.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Sloane hisses. “Sully, tell them this is ridiculous.”
I look to my brother and for the first time in a long time I watch as a smile spreads across his face. He slides his hands into his pockets and nods. “Of course you’re moving in, you’re the incubator.”
Lola sucks in a breath from the floor and curses. “Shh, Sully, you’re going to ruin it.”
