“Fine.” I snatch the bag and walk away to the nearest bathroom to change.

“Should we call her parents?” Oran asks me while we sit in the waiting room.

“Fuck no. Don’t call them, they don’t fucking care about her, dude.”

“How do you know? Her parents seem to care somewhat.” He shrugs his shoulders.

“Oran, her mother fucking slapped her at your wedding. She called her a fucking whore because I touched her and she’s my damn wife!” My voice gets loud scaring other people there.

Oran stares at me, not saying anything at first. “She hit her?”

I nod. “She did and I can’t do it. I can’t call that woman and have her come here to wreck her anymore.”

“Got it.” He answers. We sit there in silence until a doctor comes in.

“Mr. Hanlon…” the doctor walks up to me and I stand.

“Yes? Is my wife okay?” I ask.

“Yeah, she’s all right. So, she missed taking her pills for days. We gave her some medication to take, and that’s what was taking two hours. She’s fine now, but please make sure she takes her meds. She cannot skip a day. Has she been doing anything that has over exert her?” He asks.

I look at Oran, and he looks at me. I look back at the doctor. “Um,” I scratch the back of my neck. “Can sex do this to her?”

“The normal amount of sex shouldn’t have exerted her, so I don’t believe so.”

“Right…Normal amount of sex. So, um, doc hear me out, my sex drive is high okay? And We’ve been fu—, I mean being intimate many times a day. That’s healthy, no?”

“For two days? That shouldn’t be bad.” The doctor says.

I feel my face grow hot and I know it’s full on pink. “No, I mean for the whole week straight.”

The doctor nods. “It is healthy, for the average person but for Ainslee, it’s not. She can’t do that and miss her pills. It can cause her body to reject her heart and we don’t want that.”

That shocks me into a frozen state. “I, I didn’t mean to do that to her. I would never put her in harm’s way.”

The doctor looks at me sympathetically. “Oh, no, I wasn’t insinuating that at all, Mr. Hanlon. Plus, Ainslee and I had a good, long talk. Seems like you guys had the wedding of the century that caused up some flaring in her system, so your high sex drive isn’t the reason.” He jokes.

That makes me smile for the first time today. The doctor opens his mouth but I don’t care because Ainslee walks in the room. She’s wearing hospital sweats and t-shirt with my dress shirt on top with some tennis shoes. I zero in on her and take my steps over to her, pulling her into a hug once I’m right in front of her.

“Oh God, I’m so happy you’re okay!” I exclaim. “Never scare me like that again, Ainslee.”

She sniffles as she wraps her arms around my waist. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.”

All I know is that not knowing the status of what’s going on with Ainslee for two to three hours isn’t something I want to ever experience again.

Ainslee

Jagger doesn’t let me get out of the hug even as my cardiologist, who they had to wake up and call at his old age is now getting sick of this shit. He tells us he’ll be back with my new prescription. I look over to the side and see Oran; he looks just as uncomfortable as Jagger being in the hospital. I reach out, poking him in the arm. He’s so out of it, he jolts when he feels my touch.

“Boo!” I tease. He smirks at me, and I smile back. “Thank you for being here.”

“You okay? With your heart and shit?” He asks. Definitely Jagger’s best friend.

I nod. “Yeah, I’m a tough girl. You look uncomfortable, not your thing, huh?”

Oran shakes his head, “Nah.”
