“Not yet, Rena Vale.”
I didn’t really want to fight my feelings, so I settled back down instead. One tentacle slid down my chest, heading towards my nipple.
“Don’t you need to eat?” I was a weak kitten after all the strenuous activity, but I couldn’t help grinding my ass against his cock.
“You think I should eat?” he asked.
The Champion shifted down my back, but I turned to face him instead, laughing at the sudden realization I was alive and in bed with an incredibly attentive male.
“Wait, Tezakk,” I say. “Where are you from? What is your species?”
“I think it’s a little late to play ‘get to know me.’ I already fucked you, remember?”
A flush crept up my chest. Remember? How could I ever forget? My sore and still ready for more vagina wouldn’t let me. I pulled away, suddenly worried that I might have made a giant mistake.
“I just meant I know nothing about you. Why are you here?”
“The same reason as everyone else.” He brushed a strand of my hair behind my ear. “The planet’s gravity well pulled my ship in, and they captured me upon my crash. My entire crew perished. It happened too quickly to signal my homeworld. They likely think we’re dead or AWOL on our mission.”
Oh.
I couldn’t imagine surviving the last few weeks without knowing my friends were coming for me. I guess I was lucky tobe on patrol when they pulled me in. I’d had enough time to let them know what was happening before crashing.
I pulled my arms close and ran my fingers absently over the haptics embedded in my wrist.
“So, you saved me. For what? A fuck buddy? I’m not mad about it and very grateful to not be dead at the moment, but I was curious.”
“I did not save you just for that.” He leaned in and slowly licked the corner of my lips. “But it was a delightful bonus.”
“Then what?” I settled my palms on his chest. “Am I your Mate or something?”
He lifted his head, and his eyes drilled into mine. “Maybe.”
Fuuuuuuccccckkk.
A shudder passed through me. I guessed all of that “Mine” talk was a bit more serious than I’d thought.
He chuffed and pulled back.
“Rena Fucking Vale. You ‘could’ be my Mate, but I saved you because I have followed your path through the ranks, and your fire and strength are there for all to see. You are worthy of life but also worthy as a potential Mate. When I saw who you were up against and knew you would never make it out alive, I couldn’t let that happen.”
I followed his logic and understood now why I was here, but my brain couldn’t move past the ‘potential Mate’ he’d tossed out like it wasn’t a sure thing. I may be willing to fuck this male, but how could anyone be a Mate and survive in this gladiator pit?
My wrist buzzed, a personal reminder that I could be rescued at any moment. A hollow ache built in my stomach atthe thought that my concerns and growing feelings for Tezakk could be moot.
Chapter Three
“Why’d it have to be fucking water?”
“For the show,” Tezakk said as he swung his metal shaft, deflecting a blow from the thickly furred lion-like alien trying to eat his face. “It’s always for the show.”
Salty and cold, the water hit my chest in waves, stinging every wound I’d gotten prior to them flooding the Gladiator pit. The water plastered my hastily repaired shirt to my chest, and my shorts fought my progress toward safety. My boots sunk into the sand, weighing my every step. The water was so deep in places I couldn’t touch the bottom, but Tezakk waded through it like a brick through air and just as dense. He’d been forced to stay in the shallows or on the sandy hill in the middle of the field as we waited for our opponent.
A handful of chained platforms, their wooden frames digging into the sand, were stationed around the field. They’d been a trip hazard in the dry pit when we were fighting the two-legged furred beast, but a few minutes into the battle when things were going our way, they’d flooded the pit. I’d waded out to search for better weapons and to keep my softer flesh from sharp claws.
Two platforms floated so deep in waters I’d have to swim to reach them. The rest were completely submerged. You’d have thought they would be safer territory, except Atroba had just unleashed a reptilian monster into the water. It roared as it hit one platform and splashed into the deep, disappearing from sight.
“Tezakk.” I backed toward him and the marginal safety of shallower water.
