“Did you have any idea he was doing that?” Grant whispers.
I shake my head. “He’d never tell me because he knows I wouldn’t be able to keep it a secret.”
Janelle is still hugging Brian and her parents, but I rush toward her and throw my arms around her. We both scream in delight. I grab her hand and stare at the stunning rock on her finger.
“This is amazing.”
“Best Christmas party ever,” she squeals.
As everyone comes to congratulate Janelle and Brian, her father announces it’s time for karaoke. Janelle is so happy she’s not even fazed by her parents’ encore of “Santa Baby.”
I see Grant talking to Emme and Ben, and I join them, twisting my arms around Grant’s arm.
“We were just talking about the entertainment,” Grant admits, kissing me on the top of my head.
“Yes, Janelle’s parents are quite entertaining.”
“Could you imagine Mom doing that?” Ben asks. His face distorts in horror.
“Singing “Santa Baby”and dancing like that, hell no,” I exclaim. “I’d die.”
“She’s definitely changed recently,” Ben adds. “Let’s just hope it doesn’t come to that.”
The thought makes me shudder.
“It’s too late for you to cancel,” I tell Grant. “You’re officially on vacation.”
He sighs. “I know. I guess I have to enjoy myself.”
“Yes, you do.”
He smiles and places a kiss on my lips.
Just then Callie approaches us. She has a confused look on her face.
“Callie, do you remember Grant Williams?” I ask. “His company just started working with us on the financial side.”
She nods. “I thought that was you, but I—”
“My sister introduced the two of us,” Grant confesses. “It was purely coincidental our companies started doing business together.”
She listens intently as we explain our chance meeting.
“We actually didn’t like each other when we first met,” I tell her.
Grant nods in agreement. “Not at all.”
Callie looks bewildered. “Well, it seems like you’re both past that now.”
“Most of the time,” I joke.
“True,” Grant adds.
Callie introduces Grant to her fiancé who also works in finance.
We spend the rest of the party enjoying each other’s company and celebrating our newly engaged friends. I’m so glad we didn’t cancel this event. I have no doubt it will go down as one of our most memorable years ever.
