“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. And I’ll admit that I really want to kiss you, but I’m going to make you wait a little longer.”
A surge of electricity shoots through me. I shrug nonchalantly. “Doesn’t matter to me.”
He puts his hands on my waist. “Feisty as ever, I like it.”
I place my hands on his face. “Shouldn’t we get going.”
He closes his eyes, letting a groan escape. “Yes.”
“I know what you’re doing,” I tell him as I turn to leave the room. “You’ve met your match, Grant Williams.”
“We’ll see about that,” he calls.
He already knows he has.
I tell Dasher good-bye and walk outside into the cool evening air. Here goes nothing.

I’mon a date with Grant, and so far, it’s better than I expected. Our conversation doesn’t lag at all as we drive to the restaurant.
I turn to face him and fold my left leg under me.
“What did you think when you saw me in that conference room?” I ask.
He laughs. “At first I thought you were stalking me, and I got a little concerned.”
I playfully punch him on the arm.
“I’m serious. I was about to tell Burton to call the cops,” he adds.
I scowl.
“And then you kissed me in the break room which validated my theory.”
“And you kissed me back,” I remind him. “Why would you do that if you thought I was a stalker?”
His eyes remain on the road as he grips the steering wheel. “That’s a good point.”
“Hah,” I exclaim.
“Okay, since we’re asking questions—what did you think when I walked in?”
I bite my lower lip. “Honestly, I wasn’t happy.”
“Because you didn’t like me.”
I twist my mouth to the side. “Well, I thought you didn’t like me. Our first encounter wasn’t exactly warm and fuzzy.”
He clears his throat. “I know. I feel really bad about that.”
“It doesn’t matter now.”
“Maybe not, but I want to explain.” He pauses. “I don’t know if Macy told you, but we were meeting a lawyer about our parents’ estate that day. I was overwhelmed and didn’t want to be late. I love my sister, but sometimes she doesn’t take things seriously.”
I reach over and put my hand on his arm. He places his left hand on mine, causing a shiver up and down my spine. Every time he touches me, I feel like I’m floating outside of my body.
