He flashes me a sly smile. “It sounds like you’re begging me again.”

I kiss him before he sets me down, and we walk back inside hand in hand.

CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

Ihave no idea what day it is. Does anyone actually look at the calendar between Christmas and New Year’s? I’m back at work and trying to stay focused on my list of tasks. The after Christmas sales are calling my name, and I’m trying to resist the temptation. At least I get to meet up with Janelle for dinner. We haven’t seen each other since our party and the night of her engagement. I have so much to I need to tell her, and I know she’s ready to start planning her big day.

As expected, Grant has been super busy at work since Christmas. Surprisingly, he told me he’s planning to slow down starting January 1st. I assured him that I don’t expect him to change who he is, nor do I want him to change. Although I love that he wants to spend more time with me.

I manage to get some work done despite the many distractions, and its finally time to call it a day. Janelle is already sitting in a corner booth when I arrive at the restaurant. She has her planner open in front of her, and she’s scrolling swiftly through her phone.

“Hi,” she squeals as she stands up to give me a hug. I can’t help but notice how happy she looks.

I suppose a Christmas engagement does bring all the feels. And I’ve always known she was a romantic at heart.

I barely have a chance to sit down before she starts firing off questions. “How are you? How was Christmas with your dad? How’s Grant?”

“Good, good, and great.” I reply.

“Oh, I can’t wait to hear,” she says. “Let’s order drinks.”

After our server comes to the table, I fill her in on everything that happened over the holiday. She laughs when I tell her how much my aunts were swooning over Grant.

As soon as the server delivers our drinks, she holds up her glass.

“Here’s to another Christmas together,” she exclaims touching her glass to mine. “Now I have an important question for you.”

I give her a curious look. “What’s that?”

“You probably already knew I’d ask, but I should make it official. Will you be my maid of honor?”

Warmth spreads through me. “Of course. I’d be honored.”

Tears fill her eyes, and she quickly dabs the corners. She’s usually not one to show a lot of emotion.

“Anyway, I’m assuming you’ll be bringing Grant to my wedding.”

I smile broadly. “Most likely.”

“Have you told him that you love him yet?”

Ha. I can always count on Janelle to get right to the point.

“No.”

“But you do.”

I shift around in my seat. “I have strong feelings for him, yes.”

“And we know he feels the same.”

Memories of the last few days we spent together flash through my mind. “He hasn’t said those exact words.”

A spark of delight flashes across her face. “Sometimes actions speak louder than words. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time.”

“Probably.”

She claps excitedly. “Maybe next year we’ll be talking about your engagement.”
