“Yep,” he replies.

I look over at Rachel, who’s leaning her head against the window. Maybe she’s not feeling good. She did say she gets car sickness really bad.

Thankfully, we pull off the exit toward the port just in time.

“We’re almost there,” Caroline squeals.

I look out the window just as the large, luxurious ship comes into view. Caroline’s excitement is contagious. I can’t wait to get on that boat.

Our cabin is nice and thankfully a tad bit bigger than I expected. I step out onto the balcony and look out over the blue water. I can’t wait to sail away into the sunset. I’m starting to think I needed this weekend more than I realized.

“So, do you want the top or bottom bunk?” Rachel asks, joining me on the balcony. “Leslie already claimed the other bed.”

She rolls her eyes, and I force a grin. The path of least resistance is usually better.

“I’m fine with either,” I say.

“Me too.”

She sits down in one of the chairs and looks out at the water. I should take this opportunity to chat with her since we’re alone, so I sit down in the other chair.

“Rachel, is everything okay with you?”

She sighs. “Honestly, I didn’t want to come on this fun-filled weekend. I tried to tell Caroline, but she wasn’t having it. I finally decided it was easier to just come.”

Yep. That sounds about right.

“Yeah, once Caroline makes her mind up about something, it’s hard to get her to back down.” I pause. “Is there a reason you didn’t want to come? I mean, it’s a weekend in the Bahamas so—”

She purses her lips. “I have my reasons.”

She chews on her bottom lip as she continues to look out at the ocean. It’s very obvious she has something on her mind. I wonder if these reasons have anything to do with Erica and Christian? I know I have no reason to question this other than a few longing glances, but what else could it be? There’s obviously something going on since Caroline has her concerns as well.

“Do tell,” I say.

Just then, the door to the cabin flies open as Leslie returns with Caroline and Erica in tow.

“We can finish this conversation later,” I whisper.

Rachel doesn’t say anything.

“Okay, ladies, we’re meeting the boys up on Deck Eleven for the sail away party,” Erica says.

She’s busily typing something on her phone. I’m kind of expecting her to pull out a clipboard with a detailed schedule.

“We have dinner at seven and then the guys want to hit the casino. We could join them or go to the show.”

I’m impressed. Erica should really consider joining the crew on this boat as the cruise director.

“I think I’m going to lie down for a bit,” Rachel says. “I’ll catch up with you ladies later.”

She crawls up to the top bunk and faces the wall.

Caroline’s face falls, so I tap her on the shoulder and point to the door before she attempts to convince Rachel to join us. Leslie applies some lip gloss, and we set out to join the guys, leaving Rachel in peace.

“I told you there’s something going on with her,” Caroline whispers as we walk down the hall.
