“I know you two will hit it off,” Tyler says, flashing her one of his brilliant smiles.
Wait. What did I miss?
I glance at the time. “It’s getting late. I need to be at my best for tomorrow.”
“Oh, us too,” my mother says. “I need all my rest, so I can move around the dance floor.”
“You’ll save me a dance, right?” Tyler pauses. “If it’s okay with you, sir.”
My dad nods.
“Definitely,” my mom says, her cheeks turning pink.
My parents say their goodbyes, leaving Tyler and me at the table.
“You’re good,” I say with a giggle.
“Hey. I do what I have to do,” he replies. “They caught me making out with their daughter. I’m sure they were wondering what would’ve happened if they hadn’t interrupted us.”
“Good point,” I agree, my pulse speeding up.
He moves his chair closer to me. “Tori, I meant everything I said earlier. I want to continue this, and I’m really hoping you feel the same. Are you willing to ride the waves with me?”
I smile as the image of us on the Jet Skis pops into my head. I place my hand on his cheek. “I am. After all, I did drive Axel.”
“Yes, you did.”
We lean toward each other, our lips touching again. My phone starts to buzz, but I have no intention of looking at it. It’s either my mother with a bunch of questions, or more wedding stuff.
“Do you have to answer it?” Tyler asks.
“No, it can wait,” I say, wrapping my arms around his neck.
“Good, because we still have an important matter to discuss.”
I sigh loudly. “Go ahead and name my car whatever you want. I don’t care.”
He laughs. “That’s not what I was talking about, but thank you for giving me permission.”
I give him a curious look. “What else do we have to discuss?”
He takes my hand in his. “I was wondering if you’ll be my date for Caroline and Andy’s wedding?”
“Yes, on one condition,” I say with a laugh.
“Okay, what’s that?”
“You let me teach you how to park.”
He laughs. “Fair enough. You were right, I was parked over the line.”
I’m about to tell him I told you so, but he kisses me again before I have a chance to say the words.
ChapterTwenty-Four
The big day is here, and we’re all full of excitement and anticipation. Poor Caroline has to have her eye makeup touched up three times because she starts crying every time she hugs one of us. Everyone is in a great mood, including Leslie. She hasn’t said more than two words to me, but at least she’s being cordial. I know she cares too much about Caroline to cause any problems minutes before the ceremony.
The only issue is when Jeannie has a slight moment of panic because her dress doesn’t zip up right away. Erica and I tell her to take a few deep breaths. The last thing we need is for her to go into labor. After examining the dress, I realize the fabric is caught in the lining and it zips up with ease, hugging her baby bump perfectly.
