She nods as she hangs a few gift bags on the cart. “I’m not sure how much longer it’s going to last.”

I don’t say anything, but I know what she’s talking about. All hell is about to break loose, and who knows if Andy is still going to have a best man after Caroline finds out what he did to Erica.

“You should probably talk to Caroline?” I suggest.

She sighs. “I wish I could go back in time and change everything.”

We quickly abandon our conversation when Caroline’s mother walks by. It’s not my place to judge Rachel or her decisions. Hopefully, she decides to come clean with Caroline and Erica before they hear it from someone else. Either way, it’s not going to be pretty.

ChapterSixteen

Am I really doing this? Meeting up with Tyler is the last way I expected to spend my Saturday night. I was planning an exhilarating evening on the couch for some TV binging. When I pull into the parking lot of the restaurant, I notice Tyler’s monster truck immediately. That thing is impossible to miss. I suppose I could call it Axel, but I don’t think I can bring myself to refer to a truck by name. When I walk inside, I see Tyler sitting at the bar looking at his phone. He’s wearing a navy blue collared shirt, the sleeves hugging his biceps at just the right spot.

“Hey,” I say as I approach the bar.

He looks up and gives me a broad smile.

“Hey. You actually showed up.”

I give him a confused look. “Did you think I’d stand you up?”

He pulls out the chair next to him so I can sit down. “The thought crossed my mind. We didn’t get off to the best start.”

The bartender asks if I want a drink, so I order a club soda.

“We agreed to move forward, right?” I ask.

He holds up his glass. “Yes, we did.”

We start talking about the shower and his stressful day of golf. He’s the first to bring up the issue with Christian and Erica.

“Did any of you know he was cheating before today?”

He shakes his head. “No, but I had my suspicions because he’s made comments in the past. I try to stay out of other people’s personal lives.”

I twist my mouth to the side. “Did he give any details?”

Tyler raises his eyebrows. “What kind of details? Like who the other woman is?”

“Yeah.”

“No, but—”—he pauses for a moment—“never mind.”

“What?”

He lets out a puff of air and puts his glass on the counter.

“I have a pretty good idea of who it is. That’s when the you-know-what will really hit the fan.”

I’m assuming he’s talking about Rachel.

“So, what does this mean for the wedding? Is Andy keeping Christian as his best man?”

He grits his teeth. “I don’t think it’s possible after he talks to Caroline. He told Christian today that he wouldn’t go against her wishes.”

I shake my head. “Poor Erica was so upset today, but I admire how she stayed strong. Her whole world is crumbling, and she put that aside for her friend.”

“Yeah, Christian really messed up.” He says shaking his head. “Anyway, I didn’t invite you here to talk about them all night.”
