Ugh. I’m not sure I can endure another fun-filled evening with Leslie and the gang.
I put my phone down and rub my temples vigorously. My phone buzzes again almost immediately. When I pick it up, I’m surprised to see that it’s not another text from the group. My jaw drops and a jolt shoots through me as I read.
I’m still brainstorming names for your car.
It’s from Tyler. I’m trying to figure out how he got my number, and then I remember that Erica made a different group chat for details about the cruise.
I pause before I type my response.
Of course you are. I still don’t think it’s necessary.
I can tell he’s typing a response. I chew on my fingernail while I wait.
We had a deal. And I need to send you your percentage of the bingo winnings.
I actually forgot about the money too. Isn’t there a saying—what happens on a cruise stays on a cruise? Or does that only apply to Vegas?
No, you don’t. You won the money fair and square.
“Why do you look so serious?” Parker asks, distracting me from my conversation.
I hold up my phone. “Tyler is texting me.”
“Ohh, he is?” she squeals. “What’s he saying?”
I hand her my phone so she can read his messages.
“He’s obviously feeling you out,” she says knowingly. “You should ask him to meet up.”
Why am I not surprised she’d make this suggestion?
“Maybe,” I say, taking my phone out of her hand.
My phone buzzes again, and Parker jumps.
If you don’t give me your Venmo info, I’ll go to Caroline. She will back me up.
I twist my mouth to the side. He’s totally right. My screen continues to light up with texts from the bridesmaid group, and another one comes through from Tyler.
How has your week been? I miss being on vacation.
Parker raises her eyebrows as she continues to peek at my phone. “He’s really trying to make conversation with you. You should just give him a chance.”
“Okay, okay. I got this.” I wave my hand at her. She gives me a satisfied smile and sits down.
I start typing my response.
It’s been good. Being on vacation is always nice, but I’m glad to be home. Sharing a small space with Rachel and Leslie wasn’t ideal.
Admittedly, I brought up Leslie’s name on purpose. I continue typing.
I have a question. Does Christian send multiple texts throughout the day about wedding stuff? I currently have about fifty unread texts from Erica and the crew.
He immediately sends me the exploding head emoji.
Nope. The last text I have from him is about a day of golf while you girls are having your little shower. One text—time and place. The end.
I scowl.
