Why am I making such a big deal out of something so silly? I can’t let Leslie or Tyler get under my skin. It’s no wonder those two get along so well.

ChapterFive

“How do I look? Is it too much? Do I look professional enough?” Parker fires off several questions at me.

I look down at her formfitting, red, wrap dress. She looks great, but I know the real reason behind her sudden makeover. Obviously she’s dressed up for Mr. Fix-it, otherwise known as the dreamy Spencer Brady, who’s proving to be a pretty cool person to work with. Honestly, I’d be fine with him taking over Steven’s job.

“Ah, is that a new dress?”

A worried look spreads across her face. “I overdid it. See? This is why I need your advice.”

“Relax,” I say, placing my hand on her shoulder. “Did you see Shannon’s power suit? You want to talk about overdoing it. I’m not sure if she’s trying to make a sale or run for the county school board.”

Parker giggles. “She really wants Steven’s job.”

“Heaven help us.”

“That’s another reason Spencer and I should get to know each other better,” she announces. “I can make sure Shannon doesn’t get that promotion.”

Now we’re talking. Maybe we could all benefit from Parker’s love life. I’m totally team Parker and Spencer.

Parker smooths down her dress and checks her reflection in her phone.

“Maybe I went a bit heavy on the makeup,” she says, frowning. “I don’t want to make it too obvious. As if the whole zodiac sign wasn’t enough humiliation.”

I shrug nonchalantly. Her smoky eye might be a tad bit dramatic for a day at the office, but I’m certainly not going to tell her that.

“I’m sure Spencer hasn’t given it a second thought since it happened.”

She sighs. “Let’s hope. Anyway, how was your weekend? Tell me about the wedding kickoff party.”

As soon as she mentions it, Tyler pops into my brain. Crap, what’s wrong with me?

“It was fun. I was so happy to see Caroline again.”

“How are the other bridesmaids?” Parker asks. “Do you think there’s going to be drama? I don’t think you can have a wedding without some drama. All that stress, family, and pressure. It’s a mandatory requirement for all weddings.”

This reminds me of seeing Rachel drooling all over Erica’s boyfriend. Another bridesmaid crushing on the maid of honor’s boyfriend could be considered wedding drama, right?

“Actually, yes,” I say thoughtfully. “At least I think so.”

“Ohhh, tell me,” Parker says, putting her phone down on her desk.

Considering Parker is practically an expert sleuth, I explain what I witnessed at the party. I’m sure she’ll have some thoughts about what I think I saw.

As I expected, she nods her head rapidly.

“I’m calling it now. There’s something going on between Rachel and Erica’s man.”

I chew on my lower lip. “That’s the feeling I got too. I tried to talk to Rachel, but she definitely wasn’t volunteering any information.”

“You should say something to Caroline about it.”

I raise my eyebrows.

“Uh, no, I shouldn’t. First of all, it’s none of my business. For all I know, they could all just be really good friends.”

“Maybe you could ask Caroline about it casually,” she suggests. “You never know, you could be saving the wedding from a complete collapse.”
