“The bride has spoken,” Tyler announces. I try to hide my annoyance.
Caroline gives me a hug, and then Tyler and I set off into the frigid night air.
“Cold?” he asks, rolling up his sleeves.
I glance down at his tanned muscular forearms.
“A little? You’re not.”
“Nah, I’m always hot.”
Hmm … so many thoughts.
“Anyway, I think we got off on the wrong foot,” Tyler says. “Of course you were the one who got mad at me and Axel.”
“Axel?”
He nods. “My truck.”
“You named your truck?”
“Yeah, everyone names their cars.”
“No, they don’t.” I snort.
“Are you serious?” he asks, slowing his stride.
“Are you?”
All of a sudden I feel a strange rush of different emotions come over me. Is it possible to be completely annoyed and completely intrigued with someone at the same time?
“Wow. I’m not sure what to think about this, Tori,” he says, shaking his head. “I don’t know if we can be friends.”
“Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.”
“I mean, maybe we could make an exception—for Caroline and Andy.”
I purse my lips. “I think we can at least be cordial in their presence.”
He holds out his hand. “Sounds good to me.”
I place my hand in his, and a jolt shoots through my body. Well, I didn’t expect that.
He slowly lets go of my hand. “Maybe you should pay a little more attention when parking your car, you know, to leave room for other people.”
I roll my eyes. “Yeah, well maybe you should take your own advice.”
He looks at his truck and pats the tailgate gently.
“Nah. I’m good.”
Figures.
“Have a good night, Tyler,” I say as I attempt to slide my body into my car.
“You do the same, Tori.”
I close the door and let out a frustrated sigh. I back out quickly and glance at Tyler, who gives me a smug wave.
