“Speaking of trouble,” I exclaim, “what’s up with you suggesting that Bethany talk to me? I was ready to throw myself overboard earlier.”

He cringes. “Yeah, I instantly regretted that after she talked to me.”

“I still can’t believe you haven’t kicked her to the curb yet,” I say, shaking my head.

“She’s actually not that bad,” Paul insists.

Harry makes a face. “That’s what you want to believe. She already told you she wasn’t interested in you as more than a friend—give up the dream.”

“Yes, give it up,” I chime in.

Our conversation is interrupted when one of the crew approaches us.

“You sure you’re okay?” Harry asks after Paul leaves.

I nod. “Yes, there’s just been a lot going on. Nothing I can’t handle though.”

“Of course not. Lila Barlow can handle anything.”

I smile. “I appreciate your faith in me.”

He looks behind me and frowns. “I definitely agree with you about her.”

I turn around to see Bethany with her arms around Paul’s and Jordan’s shoulders. The sight causes a surge of adrenaline to shoot through my body. As bad as I want to jump in and save the day by getting her yucky arm off Jordan, I can’t. It was my decision to end our relationship, so he has the freedom to talk to anyone. Even Bethany. Ugh, the thought makes me want to puke.

“Does that make you fired up?” Harry asks, a mischievous grin on his face. “Seeing her hands all over your ex-boyfriend?”

“You’d love to see that wouldn’t you?”

“Hell, yes. I love when feisty Lila comes out. She turns me on.”

I shake my head. “You’re bad.”

He leans into me. “Come on, admit that you’re finally ready to settle down with me. We’d have some gorgeous children.”

I wrap my arm around Harry’s shoulders. He’s really adorable with his warm, brown eyes and irresistible dimples. “Our children would be precious, but think of all the issues they’d have with us as parents. It just wouldn’t be fair to them.”

He nods knowingly. “That’s true. So, how about we make one of those deals that if neither of us is married by the time we turn thirty-five, we get married.”

“You’re saying we should be each other’s backups,” I reiterate.

“That’s exactly what I’m saying.”

Hmm … at the rate I’m going, it may not be a bad idea. Harry and I could be life companions and travel the world together in our old age.

“Fine,” I say in agreement.

Harry’s eyes light up. “Really?”

I laugh. “Why not? Although, I’m sure some lucky girl will snag you before then. Who could resist those dimples?”

“You could,” he reminds me.

I give him a coy smile. “You know that’s not true.”

I look over to see Bethany flipping her hair and batting her eyes at Jordan. She really is one of the worst people ever. At least Jordan knows what he’s dealing with because we were together when she was wreaking havoc on our household.

“Don’t worry. I’m sure Jordan won’t be deceived by Bethany’s charm,” Harry says.
