“So, you think she cheated on Cal with him?” Reagan asks.

“I didn’t say that, but there’s definitely some interest there.”

Gabby gives me thoughtful look. “Well, there is one thing …”

Ah, I knew it.

“What?”

She goes on to tell us about a dinner she went to with Theo and his friends.

“Sara had a lot to drink, and she was being very affectionate with everyone. Cal was visibly frustrated, so AJ kind of stepped in and helped. He was very attentive, almost affectionate with her. I thought it was a little over the top, but I didn’t want to say anything. It was one of the first times I met Theo’s friends, so I certainly wasn’t going to question anyone’s behavior at that point.”

“So this happened a while ago?”

“Yes.”

“Sara is a nice person,” she adds. “And she and Cal seem to be happy, so I don’t know.”

I chew on my lip while Gabby and Reagan exchange a glance. I already know what they’re thinking. I’m sure it sounds like I’m making a big deal out of nothing.

“I know how this sounds,” I interject. “I promise I’m not assuming things because she’s Cal’s girlfriend.”

They don’t say anything, so I continue, “AJ and I were flirting, and Sara wasn’t happy about it. It was written all over her face.”

Neither was Cal, but I don’t tell them that.

“So, what are you going to do?” Reagan asks.

That’s one of the things I love about Reagan. She’s sweet and kind, but she has a feisty side to her.

“Sara and I are supposed to meet up sometime soon,” I say. “I’ll see if I can get any information, although she probably won’t tell me. She knows that Cal and I dated, and I’m not sure how she feels about that.”

“Okay, so do you want to know because you’re interested in AJ or because of Cal?” Gabby asks.

I purse my lips together. Admittedly, something about AJ is very intriguing. At the same time, there will always be a place in my heart for Cal. I was hurt when things ended, but at the same time I feel a strange need to be protective of him.

“Honestly, a little of both.”

Gabby shrugs. “Well, Sara and Cal seem happy, but I thought Dustin and I were happy too. And we all know what happened with that.”

Gabby zones out. A wave of guilt rushes over me. This is totally her night, and we shouldn’t be talking about other people’s drama.

“Enough about that,” I say, jumping up from the couch. “I’m going out on Paul’s boat tomorrow and guess who’s going.”

Reagan gets a horrified look on her face. “Bethany?”

I frown. “Ew. I hope not.”

Paul didn’t mention Bethany, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she slithers onto that boat tomorrow.

“He invited Jordan.”

“Are you okay with that?” Gabby asks.

“Actually, yes. I care about Jordan, and I hope that we can be friends after the dust settles. He’s one of the best guys I know.”

As we continue talking, we drag ourselves off the couch and start cleaning up. In the back of my mind, I keep thinking about selling this house and how much I’m going to miss these late night chats with my roommates.
