“Well, Gabby is a great friend to me too. I’m glad she’s found happiness.”

“Even if it means she’s marrying me?” he teases.

I laugh. “Shocking, isn’t it?”

We both grow quiet for a few minutes. And he looks around the house.

“Lila, I know that your parents are finally selling.”

Crap. I should’ve known he’d find out.

“Did Cal tell you?”

He shakes his head. “It was Sara actually. She let it slip while I was talking to Cal.”

Sara again, huh? She certainly has loose lips. She also let it slip that Theo was planning to propose, but I don’t tell him this.

“Did you say anything to Gabby?”

He shakes his head. “It’s not my place. And I learned a long time to stay out of your business.”

Huh, if only he’d done that all those years ago.

“Thanks. I’m going to tell them, but with the party and everything I was just waiting for the right time.”

“It’s going to be a sad day when the Barlows no longer own this house.”

This reminds me of Sara’s phone call from earlier.

“Well, you may really like your new neighbors. Sara told me that she and Cal are interested in buying it.”

Theo furrows his brow. “What?”

Oops. Did I say too much? I guess I can accidentally let things slip too.

“Oh, I guess you haven’t talked to Cal since they had that conversation,” I say with a shrug.

It’s very possible that he didn’t tell Theo. Do guys tell their friends everything like women do? I didn’t think so.

“I talked to him about an hour ago. And there’s no way Cal would ever buy your house.”

He seems pretty adamant about it, which stirs my curiosity once again.

“Sara seemed pretty confident,” I tell him. “She even suggested I don’t list it and make a deal with them directly.”

Theo looks confused.

“There’s no way they’re buying a house, especially because they’ve been having some issues.”

My ears perk up, and Theo makes a face. I might as well use this time to ask him about AJ. What the hell, I have nothing to lose at this point.

“Do their issues have anything to do with AJ?”

“AJ Bennett?” he asks.

“That’s the one.”

I can almost see the wheels turning in Theo’s head.
