Gabby presses her lips together but doesn’t say anything.
“In other news, guess who I had the pleasure of seeing on Paul’s boat?”
I haven’t had a chance to talk to her or Reagan about Bethany yet.
“Jordan?”
“Well, yes. But that was fine. Bethany was there, and she wants me to talk to Reagan for her.”
Gabby groans. “About what? I hope you set her straight.”
“Ha. I tried to, but I still don’t think she gets it. She still believes everything that happened was Reagan’s fault and that Reagan kicked her out on the street.”
“So if everything was Reagan’s fault, then why does she want to talk to her?”
I shake my head. “Good question. She rambled on about deciding to forgive her after thinking she never would. It was all very dramatic, of course.”
“What are you going to tell Reagan?”
“Don’t you mean warn her?” I ask with a giggle.
“That too.”
“I’ll deliver the message and let Reagan decide what she wants to do.”
I return to my desk and attempt to do some work, but I’m distracted today. I feel like there is so much happening all at once, and I can’t seem to get any of it under control. I decide to abandon work for a few minutes and talk to Elizabeth.
I knock on her door and peek in her office.
“Hey, come on in,” she says, putting her phone down.
I’m still so taken aback by her appearance. She obviously put forth the effort, but you can just tell when someone is struggling. Her blonde hair is pulled back into a ponytail, and she has minimal makeup compared to her usual fresh-faced self.
I sit in one of the chairs across from her desk and give her a funny look.
“What’s up?” she asks.
“I was about to ask you the same thing.”
She sighs. “I’m sorry if I seem preoccupied lately. I’ve had a lot on my plate.”
“Anything I can help with?”
She hesitates and then finally starts talking. “I might have to sell or close Fun in the Sun Realty.”
What?I certainly wasn’t expecting her to say that. I guess that explains the comment she made about me taking over the agency.
“Why?” I ask.
“Billy was offered a promotion with his job. It’s in London and an amazing opportunity for him. We’ve had so many late night discussions trying to figure out how we could make things work. He doesn’t want to go without me, and I don’t want him to miss out on anything. We’re at such a stalemate, and I don’t know where to go next.”
Billy is Elizabeth’s longtime boyfriend. I think they might be common law married or whatever it’s called. I don’t know how that works, but I know they almost got married in Vegas on several different occasions. They backed out at the last second because they thought they wanted a traditional wedding someday. Obviously it’s never happened.
“I’ve always wanted to live abroad, so there’s a part of me that’s really excited to go,” she continues.
“Can you do both?” I ask. “Maybe you could keep the agency and work remotely?”
I have no idea if this could work, but I’m trying to help.
