Elizabeth puts her pen to her lips. “Is something else on your mind?”

I shrug my shoulders. “Always. But nothing I can’t handle.”

I’ve worked for Fun in the Sun Realty for a few years, and I don’t like to bring my personal life into the office. At least I try not to. Once I walk through these doors, my only focus is to help my clients find their forever home or help them sell.

“Well, keep up the great work,” Elizabeth says with a smile.

“That’s my plan.”

“Who knows, I might have you take over this place sooner rather than later.”

Huh?

“What do you mean?” I ask worriedly.

She lets out a nervous laugh. “Nothing.”

My brain keeps replaying what Elizabeth said as I walk back to my desk. She started this business all on her own and she lives for it. Why would she make a comment like that?

“Hey.”

Gabby’s voice pulls me out of my thoughts. She’s sitting at her desk, which is toward the back of the office.

“Hi,” I say, walking over to her.

She furrows her brow. “What’s up? You look perplexed.”

Gabby actually might know if anything is up with Elizabeth because they’re related—well, sort of. Her sister-in-law, Nikki, is Elizabeth’s sister, which totally makes them family, right?

I look around and even though Suzanna looks busy, I’m sure her ears are wide open in hopes of hearing something interesting.

I hold up my phone and send her a quick text.

Elizabeth just made a comment about me taking over for her. She’s probably kidding, but it was weird. Have you heard anything?

Gabby’s phone buzzes, and she looks up at me.

I revert my eyes in Suzanna’s direction, and she nods her head. She starts typing on her phone.

I haven’t heard anything, but I’ll definitely see if I can find out any info.

In other words, she’s going to ask Nikki.

“By the way, I ran into Cal,” I tell her. I haven’t talked to Gabby since the Hillards’ party.

Gabby’s eyes grow wide. “Oh. How did that go?”

I tell her about meeting Sara.

“Wait. Sara is the woman Diane wanted you to meet.”

“Yes, apparently she thinks we’re a lot alike and meant to be life-long friends.”

Gabby looks concerned. “That’s interesting.”

“In her defense, we did show up to the party wearing the same outfit.”

She laughs. “Really? So you and Sara have the same taste in clothes and men.”
