We continue chatting about other areas, and she tells me where they’re looking to purchase.
“I’m hoping you can help us with that too,” she says.
“Oh, my goodness, absolutely.” I nod as I hold in any tears that might try to escape my eyes. I need to keep this professional. Having an emotional breakdown isn’t good for business.
“Well, we trust Theo, and he says you were one of the best agents back in Orlando.”
My heart begins to pound. I’m not sure how I’ll ever be able to repay Theo.
“He’s been so nice since I arrived in town.”
She smiles. “He’s the real deal. And even after having a rough few years, he hasn’t changed a bit."
I’m not sure if she’s talking about Theo’s mother’s death or something else, and I’m not going to ask her. I certainly don’t want to pry into Theo’s life. Although he knows everything about mine.
“He’s quite a catch too,” she adds. “Kevin and I are setting him up with a friend of ours. I’m telling you, they’re perfect for one another. If there’s such a thing as soul mates—it’s those two.”
A wave of jealousy comes over me when she mentions setting Theo up with someone else. Not that I’m surprised because Theo is a catch. I’ve been wondering how he hasn’t been snatched up yet.
“Okay, so you think we can sell this beauty?” Danielle asks, changing the subject.
“Absolutely,” I say, plastering a big smile on my face.
I push all thoughts of Theo and his potential soul mate out of my mind. The only thing that matters in this moment is my job, and that’s what I’m going to concentrate on.
When I return to the office, I get right to work on the listing and start researching some properties for Danielle and Kevin to look at, including one in my neighborhood.
My mind wanders a few times to what Danielle said about Theo.
I haven’t spoken to him since showing up at his house after talking to Nikki. It’s probably a good thing, though, because seeing him every day could easily start to become habit.
Ugh. It’s so frustrating because this is exactly what I was hoping to avoid. I told myself to stay away from men, especially because I’ve been in such a vulnerable place. It doesn’t help that Theo is charming, good-looking, and kind. All those reasons are why I should hit slow down before I get in too deep.
“How was your meeting?" Lila asks, dragging me out of my thoughts.
“It was—really good.”
Lila frowns. “What happened?”
“Nothing—why.”
“You look perplexed.”
There’s no way I’m discussing Theo with her.
“I’m just anxious to get things going,” I tell her. “You know how you want to jump in and do everything all at once.”
Lila takes the bait, and I breathe a sigh of relief. It’s time for me to follow through on what I planned to do when I moved here. This is my chance to hit restart, and I’m not letting anything, or anyone stand in my way.
When I get home from work, I’m exhausted. My plan for the night is to finally organize my room. No more accidentally-on-purpose running into Theo or rushing over to his house in a panic.
“Hey, girl.”
When I walk into the kitchen Reagan is sitting at the counter.
Hold on.That’s not Reagan. But whoever it is looks exactly like her. This girl has the same brown eyes, but her hair is a bit darker blonde and longer.
Reagan’s doppelgänger must notice the confusion on my face.
