He laughs. “It’s okay if you were.”

I scowl. “Well, I could the say the same thing about you. Remember this?”

I hold up my hand to remind him of my wrist injury.

“Fair enough. I guess that makes us even now,” he teases.

“I guess it does.”

I’m trying my best not to stare at the pool water glistening off his bare upper body.

“How’s your wrist feeling today?”

I hold out my hand to him. The swelling has gone down quite a bit.

“It’s actually feeling better, just sore.”

The sun is starting to peek out of the horizon, and light is slowly filling the sky.

“My first Miami sunrise,” I say excitedly. "Seeing this makes getting up early worth it.”

He nods. “It is pretty amazing. I’m awake at this time every day, but I never take the time to appreciate it.”

“Do you swim every morning?”

“Usually. Or I run a few miles.”

Of course, he does.

“I should probably let you get back to it then,” I say, picking up my now empty coffee cup. “Have a great day.”

“Have you had breakfast yet?” he asks.

What?

“No. I haven’t had a chance to get any groceries. Lila told me to help myself, but all she has is oatmeal and a box of Lucky Charms.”

“Lucky Charms are pretty delicious,” he points out. “But not as good as my omelets. Do you want to join me?”

I glance down at my light blue pajamas and slippers. Is he really asking me to have breakfast with him while I look like this?

“Um, that’s nice of you. But I’m kind of a mess.”

He grins. “You look cute—although your hair is doing something funny in the back.”

I pat the back of my head, and sure enough my hair is all mangled and sticking up in different directions. I’m not surprised since I think I’m on day three of dry shampoo.

I laugh. “Obviously I didn’t expect to see anyone this morning, but just so you know, I brushed my teeth."

Why did I tell him that?

“That’s good to know,” he says. “Come on over, unless you had your heart set on Lucky Charms.”

The crazy thing is I really want to take him up on his invitation, especially after seeing him shirtless, and I do love omelets.

I let out a loud sigh. “Well, since you’ve already seen me at my worst, why not?”

“Exactly,” he teases.
