“I will.” I pause. “That reminds me, Lila said she heard you might be selling your house.”

The corner of his mouth curls up. “I’ve thought about it.”

This is my chance to casually remind him that I work in real estate. I need to utilize every connection I make.

“Well, please keep me in mind if you don’t have a realtor yet.”

He smiles. “Definitely. And I’ll be happy to pass your information along to friends.”

I beam. “That would be amazing. It’s going to be a lot of work to build my business, so I’ll take all the help I can get.”

“Do you have a business card?”

I dig in my bag for one of my cards. “This is an old card, but my cell number is on it.”

I finally open the door despite my strange hesitation.

“Gabby.”

“Yes.” My stomach does a little flip, and I turn around to face him.

“Make sure you rest your hand. I don’t want to have to tell your doctor that you aren’t following orders.”

I frown. “Would you really tell on me?”

He shrugs. “That depends.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll be a good girl,” I say playfully.

As soon as the words come out of my mouth, I regret it.

He raises his eyebrows. “It was nice meeting you.”

“You too, Theo.” I shut the door and walk toward the house. When I turn to wave, Theo is still watching me. He waves one more time and then pulls out of the driveway.

My head is spinning as I try to make sense of our strange interaction. Despite my attraction to Theo, I made a promise to myself that I would steer clear of men for a while. The only thing that’s important right now is building my career and getting settled in my new life. Everything else will only complicate things, and that’s the last thing I need right now.

Chapter Three

As soon as I walk into the house, Lila greets me with a glass of wine. How does she still look so glamorous in her yoga pants and hoodie? I could be wearing the same clothes and look like I haven’t showered in days.

“I’m sure you need this after spending all that time with Theo Jorgenson,” she says with a laugh. “And I have plenty more where this came from.”

I giggle. “Actually, it wasn’t bad. He was really polite and attentive. He drove me to urgent care and even sat with me before I got X-rays.”

She makes gagging sounds. “Oh girl, please don’t fall for his charm.”

I laugh nervously. “Absolutely not. I know better.”

“Anyway, welcome home,” she says holding her arms out. “Reagan just got here a few minutes ago. She’s changing.”

Here we go. The three of us are officially beginning our adventure of living under the same roof starting tonight. I take a long sip of wine, hopefully it will calm my nerves.

When I walk into the kitchen, I’m met with a fantastic spread of food including a gorgeous charcuterie tray, fruit, vegetables, and some french pastries.

“This is amazing, Lila,” I exclaim. “You didn’t have to do this.”

She shrugs. “I thought it would be a nice way to spend our first evening getting to know each other.”
