A strange feeling sweeps through my body, and suddenly I wonder what it’d be like to feel his lips on mine. What’s happening to me?
“Since you made breakfast, I’ll clean up,” I say, quickly hopping off the barstool.
I pick up our plates and walk to the sink. Theo follows my lead and begins putting the food back into the fridge while I rinse the dishes. Neither of us says anything for a few minutes, and Theo joins me at the sink.
“Gabby, I really admire you.”
I scoff. “Why?”
He folds his arms to his chest and leans against the counter. “Your life was turned upside down, and you took a huge leap starting over. Most people wouldn’t have that kind of courage.”
“Hah, I don’t know if I’d call it courage or running away from my problems. Either way, I’m committed to making the most of my new life.”
“Well, if you need anything, I’m here,” he says softly.
Part of me wonders if Theo is too good to be true. He’s attractive, polite, sexy and makes a fantastic omelet.
Granted, Lila doesn’t think much of him, but she’s most definitely jaded based on their past.
“That means a lot. It’s hard to move to a new place and not know a soul. I’ve been surrounded by friends and family my entire life.”
I reach for a towel to dry my hands, and my face is now inches from Theo’s. My heart begins to race as that same feeling I had in Theo’s car takes over me. Before I know what’s happening, Theo places his hand on my cheek and moves his mouth closer to mine. I don’t waste any time wrapping my arms around his neck and letting him kiss me. His soft lips are moving slowly against mine, and his hands are on my waist.
This is going against every promise I made to myself, but I don’t care.
Theo is the first to stop and pull back. “I’m sorry.”
I frown. “That’s something every woman wants to hear after being kissed.”
“Oh, no! I’m not sorry about the kiss. I just don’t want you to think I’m trying to take advantage of the new girl in town.”
“You mean you weren’t trying to seduce me with your mad cooking skills and delicious breakfast?” I tease.
“Darn it, you figured me out,” he says, pushing my hair behind my shoulder. “What about you? Were you trying to seduce me with your fuzzy slippers and wild morning hair?”
We both start laughing.
“Yes, because I look so sexy right now.”
He steps back and looks me up and down. “Actually, you do.”
He takes my face in his hands once again and gives me one more kiss.
“I really should get going,” I tell him. “It’s my first day at my new job, and my roommates might be wondering where I am.”
He nods. “Yeah, Lila isn’t going to be happy when she finds out you were over here making out with me.”
The mention of Lila reminds me about her and Cal.
“By the way, Lila told me she dated Dr. Sims.”
“A long time ago,” Theo says. “She blamed me for their break-up.”
That’s exactly the way Lila described it, but like my mother says, there are always three sides to every story.
“That’s basically what she told me too.” Although she was a bit more dramatic when she said that Theo destroyed her life.
“It’s not my fault Cal broke up with her,” he insists. “Lila told him that her ex-boyfriend was coming back to town and she needed to talk to him. She was totally making out with the guy in front of her house, so of course I told my friend what I saw. Cal was disappointed after things ended, but she couldn’t make up her mind between the two guys, and he wasn’t going to wait around while she flip-flopped back and forth.”
