Hmm …

“Just so you know, I have to follow up with Dr. Sims since I don’t have a primary physician yet.”

She sips her wine and shrugs. “I’m sure Cal Sims is happily attached. Men like him don’t stay single for long.”

I shrug. “I don’t know, but I’m sure I could find out.”

“That’s a great idea,” Reagan agrees.

“We’ll see,” Lila says nonchalantly. “Anyway, I’d like to make a toast to us. I’m so grateful that you’re both here and agreed to move in. It’s been a while since I’ve had roommates, and you’ve made my decision to leave my condo easier.”

Thankfully we drop the subject of Theo and Cal. I’d rather not spend our first evening together talking about men.

Lila shows us photos of her picturesque beach-front condo. I have to say that as amazing as this home is, it would’ve been difficult for me to walk away from that view.

“I’m so happy you told me my pants were inside out in our Pilates class,” Reagan says with a laugh.

“What?” I exclaim.

Reagan tells the story about the first time she and Lila met, and we all laugh hysterically.

“From that moment on we started talking, and I told her I was looking for a new place to live.” Reagan says, “I had reached my limit living with my sister and her new husband. By the way, I don’t recommend living with newlyweds.”

“So, you were obviously meant to put your pants on wrong that day,” I suggest.

Reagan giggles. “Exactly.”

“What about you, Gabby?” Lila asks. “Why did you decide to come to Miami? I mean, other than to work for Elizabeth.”

I sigh. It’s not exactly a secret as to why I’m here but it’s still raw to talk about.

“Well, long story short, I broke off my engagement when I found my fiancé and my best friend together.”

“No,” Reagan shouts.

“Stop,” Lila demands.

I nod. “Yep. My boyfriend of three years and my best friend of forever had been having an affair for over a year.”

“That’s terrible,” Reagan says.

“So, to answer your question, I’m here because I literally ran away from my problems,” I say. “It was the worst five months of my life, and I knew I had to get out of Orlando.”

Reagan reaches over and pats me on the back.

“If it’s any consolation, you came to the right place to get over that jackass,” Lila adds. “I can introduce you to some great men. Especially since your only interaction so far is with Theo Jorgenson.”

Theo’s handsome face flashes through my mind. I must have a swoony expression on my face because Lila gives me a horrified look.

“No, Gabby,” she wails. “Please don’t tell me I’m too late. You can’t be interested in him already.”

I hold up my hands. “Actually, I promised myself that I’d stay far away from men for a while. I’m sure you can understand that I’m a bit jaded at the moment. My career is my number one priority right now.”

Lila shakes her head. “You do know that the best way to get over someone is by meeting someone else.”

Reagan nods. “Yes, I agree.”

I sigh. “Well, that may be the case, but I’m in a good place, and I don’t need a man coming in and messing everything up.”
