“You got it, babe.” Lucy lets me go and extends her arms in front of her, fingers laced. “Just try to stop me.”

Ferenc

Ineed Grace like I need air.

I want to think Dominik is wrong. That I can get out of here and get to her. That it won’t cause further problems for either of us.

My shoulder still aches. The blood has dried to an unpleasant crust, and after a period where I thought my hands had turned into sandwiches, the potion Dominik gave me did stop making me hallucinate and sent me to sleep.

I am not thanking him for the nightmares, but I am ready to fight again.

A flap in the cell door opens and a pair of human eyes stare in at me.

“Chicken or beef?” a muffled voice asks.

“Fuck off,” I respond with a growl.

“‘E’s speaking some foreign language, Sarg,” the voice continues.

“Give him the chicken then, you massive twat. It’s out of date.”

A slightly larger flap opens in the door, and a tray is slid through. I wish they had not. The stench of the food fills thesmall cell, and I curse Dominik silently under my breath, a breath I’m trying to hold, for even suggesting I stay here.

Why should I trust a vampire?

Because I want Grace to be safe. Because I want to be with her, claim her, fill her belly with pups, and spend the rest of our lives together.

It makes me want to shift more than anything, to tear the door from its hinges, to leave this ridiculous place which seems to know nothing about the others who walk in their midst.

After a while, I can’t bear it any longer, and I collect the tray, tipping the contents down the toilet, thereby cutting out the middleman, presumably the way it is intended.

I fling myself back onto the rubber mattress and stare at the ceiling. A small window, or rather thick glass bricks which resemble a window, lets a little moonlight into the cell, at least as far as I can tell, given the artificial light has remained on the entire time I’ve been here.

I think about my suite in the hotel, the one I picked with Grace in mind, the large bed where I was going to lick over every inch of her before sheathing my cock in her wet heat, before I took her back to Hungary…

Of course Dominik would make me stay here. He’s going to be laughing about this for years to come.

Outside of the cell, there’s the sounds of multiple boots, confusion, and raised voices.

I stand up, unsheathing my claws. I’m close to full strength, and what little silver residue is left in my body won’t stop me dealing with meddling humans.

“I haven’t had any comms about the prisoner being moved.” The voice of Sarg penetrates the door. “Who are you anyway?”

“Monster Force.” A new gruff voice joins in. “Open the cell, and we’ll take it from here.”

Monster Force? That’s a new one. I’ve travelled over most of Europe, and apart from having monster-human councils in some places, namely Germany, the humans have, in the main, chosen to ignore our reveal and carry on as if we have always existed.

Except, apparently, the English.

A key rattles in the door, and I decide I don’t want to meetMonster Force, nor do I want to continue with this charade Dominik seems to think is necessary. I might still not be back to full alpha strength, and shifting would be excruciating, but I’m fit enough to deal with this collection of idiots.

As the door opens, I make my move. A riot shield enters, followed by another. They have long prods, tipped with silver, which is highly disappointing. It would appear Britain is full of idiots. Ones who think they can get close enough to a werewolf to actually use the ridiculous implements.

When they find the place empty, they come to an uneasy halt. Which is when I drop down from the ceiling and knock them all to the floor, slamming the door against another who tries to get in and easily disarming him. The shield comes in handy as I shove my way out of the cell. As much as I’d like to tear out throats of those who are keeping me from my mate, humans are no match for me.

I prefer a fair fight.

A quick scent of the air and I catch the metallic tang of the night, showing me the way to the exit. The only problem is the humans are multiplying, and I still can’t risk shifting.
