“They are not for excuses, kedves.”
“I’m not making an excuse.”
“Then what are you sorry for?”
“I didn’t mean…I wasn’t…” I struggle in his grasp, and Ferenc rolls off me with a bark of laughter.
My cheeks flame, and the rest of my body isn’t much better. I feel like I’m soaked in sweat from that one small, smoldering encounter.
Holy shit, Ferenc is hot. Definitely something you want to see first thing in the morning, with a dark scruff on his face and his just woken up eyes.
“Of course you weren’t, keddi.” He chuckles and climbs off his side of the bed, padding into the bathroom and leaving the door open.
I hear the sound of running water, the shower I presume. Ferenc certainly isn’t shy about anything, which included stripping me to my underwear when I was on the verge of being hypothermic.
I feel gross, my hair needs a wash as I’m sure there’s still mud in it from yesterday, and I slept in my clothes. But as I have literally nothing to my name, not even a change of clothing, I’m sort of trapped here.
“I will take you to get another wardrobe today,” Ferenc says, drawing my attention back to the bathroom door.
He is entirely naked, save for the fluffy towel he’s holding over his…gentleman’s area. It’s not even wrapped around his waist.
Ferenc isripped. Tight, defined abs, outlined by the dark hair which covers him, dipping down into a swept ‘v’ which disappears behind the towel. His thighs are huge—no wonder he needs bespoke suits—as are his arms.
I genuinely don’t know where to look. For a start, all of him is edible, and also…he’s basically naked.
I do the only thing I can and cover my eyes with a squeak of alarm.
“It’s fine, you don’t need to do that,” I say, muffled.
“I think you’ll find I do, seeing as you only lost your belongings because of me.”
“I lost my belongings because my foul ex was shagging his secretary and didn’t have the balls to tell me and then took everything as I was stupid enough not to trust my instincts about him,” I respond through gritted teeth. “If he hadn’t jilted me, I’d still have all my clothes and my business.”
The bed dips and the air is ripped with a growl. I daren’t take my hand from over my eyes because I’m absolutely sure Ferenc is nudey mcnude.
“If you hadn’t been with me, you would have never come to the attention of the vampires,” Ferenc says.
He gently takes my hand from my eyes. The towel is neatly tucked around his waist. Instead, I have acres of abs to look at.
“It is my fault, Grace. Let me make it right for you,” he says.
“I think I have some insurance for this trip. Once I make a claim, I’ll be able to pay you back, I promise.”
“Humans have insurance against Darasz attacks?” he asks.
“Well, no. I don’t suppose we do…”
“So, it is settled.” Ferenc unfolds himself from the bed. “I’ll buy you a new wardrobe.”
He stalks across the bedroom but not to the bathroom door, to the main door.
“Use my facilities,” he says as he opens the door. “I will get ready elsewhere.”
I shut my mouth to stop looking like a fish as the door closes behind him. The shower is still running, and a wisp of steam escapes the bathroom.
It is settled.
How on earth he’s going to replace my secondhand clothes, I don’t know. But given Budapest has some fantastic hidden gems of thrift stores, I suppose I should take him up on his offer.
