“You didn’t…” His voice softens, more serious now. I don’t want to know how he knows I forgot to eat breakfast, but something tells me it wasn’t just a lucky guess. “And I have no doubt you’re exhausted, but I want to hear what you were going to say. I need to hear you say it.”

He keeps his gaze trained on me, but this time he’s not looking at me condescendingly; if anything, he almost looks nervous.

I might as well fess up, because I know as well as anyone that Luka’s not going to drop it. My shoulders sag in defeat, and I blow out a sigh. “I think I’ve been reading your signals wrong. I was starting to think that maybe there was something developing between us.” His eye contact is too intense, and I have to look away. “I promise not to make it weird, so if we could just pretend I never mentioned it, that’d be great.”

“What if I don’t want to?”

My eyes snap back to his. “What do you mean?”

Luka’s eyes darken as he takes a step, closing the distance between us. “Nothing.”

He grabs my arm and tugs me to follow him. “Wait, don’t we still need to order supplies? Where are we going now?”

“We’ve got one more stop to make.”

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Luka

I was hoping it wouldn’t have to come to this, but I’m at my wits end. And if there’s any hope of me keeping my hands to myself, then something’s got to give.

It’s taken every ounce of strength I have to keep myself away. It’s like she’s haunting me. She’s everywhere, consuming my every thought and visiting me every night in my dreams.

Why the fuck does she have to be so goddamn perfect? I don’t think I could craft someone who ticks every one of my boxes any better than my wife, who’s ironically the only woman I cannot have.

I’m still testing the waters, gauging her reaction to different things, but I’m almost certain about one thing. Scout is a natural submissive. The moment I take control, her whole body responds like a puppet—and fuck if that’s not my biggest weakness.

She’s already so willing to please me, and I haven’t even touched her… yet.

I shake the thought away because I know I’m playing with fire here. I’m not thinking clearly. Getting my revenge on her father is one thing and teaching her a lesson is another. But how far can I really take things before this blows up in both of our faces?

It doesn’t matter because I’m not going to tempt fate and find out. Which is exactly why we’re here.

We pull up into the parking spot in front of the building, and I shrug off my helmet. “I’m just going to run in and pick up a few essentials.”

Scout’s eyes grow wide, not even trying to disguise her panic. “Essentials? What essentials do you really need from Adult Store?”

“I’m sensing a little judgment in your tone. Do you have a problem with this upstanding establishment?”

“No… of course not.” She looks around suspiciously. “But what exactly do you need right now that you don’t already have?” Her words come out in a hiss, her face flushed bright pink.

Her innocence makes me chuckle. “Oh, Girl Scout, I wasn’t referring to me.”

Her eyes grow even wider, and I swear I see the color drain from her face.

Interesting.

I was expecting her to be flustered—counting on it, actually—but I guess I’ve managed to push her past humiliation and straight into panic mode.

Looks like she’s even more vanilla than I thought. She doesn’t even know the things she’s missing out on…

Without another word, I head for the door. Scout scrambles after me, holding a hand over her face like she’s trying to hide.

The sound of a bell chimes as I push through the deckled glass door—the town’s only requirement for having a sex shop inthe middle of town. Fuck, I love this small town, the people can’t be beat.

“Is that my favorite customer?” No sooner does she reach me than my face is pressed into Miss Scarlett’s pillowy-soft bosom.

I don’t know if it’s the temporary suffocation that resets my brain or if there’s some other kind of magic at play, but it never fails to make me feel better. I’m convinced that if more people knew about this power, we could have world peace.
