I tell them all about the games we’ve been playing. The way I’ve put out feelers, given little tests to see how far she’ll go. I tell them about buying her a vibrator and how we got high, and she revealed she’d never had an orgasm. How I bet her I could get her off without even touching her, and how it was one of the hottest things I’ve ever experienced…
“Then her douchebag ex showed up yesterday while she was painting the mural. I may have been watching her through Jett’s security camera… And I was filled with this rage, a possessiveness I’ve never felt. So I asked her about it, then she lied to my fucking face. We had this huge argument, and one minute we were fighting and…”
“The next you were fucking,” Leo answers for me, and I nod.
“Yeah… pretty much.”
“And in any of those conversations, you had no clue she was a virgin?” Roman asks, his expression neutral, as if we were talking about branding colors.
I shake my head, feeling so stupid. “No. I mean… she never said it explicitly, but it’s not like she lied about it either… I guess I just assumed.”
“So, I take it you didn’t exactly make her first time gentle,” Roman says.
I shake my head as the image of the blood-stained sheets flashes through my mind.
Everyone goes quiet as the weight of my confession sinks in, until Leo finally breaks the silence. “Jesus, dude. You really did fuck up big time.”
“Yep. I think this one takes the cake in terms of Kingsley family fuck ups,” Roman agrees.
Guy doesn’t say anything, just slaps me on the back, as if acknowledging how much of a goner I am.
“The worst part is… I don’t think she was really that upset…If anything, she looked disappointed that I stopped.”
Leo blows out a breath. “And now you don’t think you’ll be able to resist if she so much as bats an eyelash your way.”
I nod.
“Oh shit. You are so screwed.”
“Fuuuck,” Roman drags out.
“Yeah, tell me about it. So, there’s your answer as to why I look like shit. I don’t know how I’m supposed to resist? Hell, at this point, I honestly don’t think I can.”
Leo clicks his tongue as he thinks, then finally says. “Well, if you would’ve come to me for advice first, I would’ve warned you that this was bound to happen. But you didn’t, and I just don’t see any way out of it. No matter what happens, this is going to end with at least one of you getting hurt.”
Roman jumps in and adds, “So if it’s going to destroy you anyway?—”
“You may as well enjoy the ride while it lasts,” Guy finishes for him.
Their permission feels like I’ve just been handed a live grenade, and I try to think of anysaferoption.
Leo’s sigh breaks the silence as his concerned look morphs into something that more closely resembles pity. “If you’re going to do this, you need to do it right.”
Roman nods. “I agree. Try to stay as detached as you can.”
I nod, feeling a rush of excitement at the prospect of finally claiming Scout as my own…
Leo’s lip curls into a smile, but they don’t meet his eyes. “Good luck, little brother. I have a feeling you’re going to need it.”
A knowing grin plays on Guy’s face as he claps me on the back. “I hope it’s worth it.”
Trust me… it is.
CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE
Scout
I wipe my brow as beads of sweat trail down my temples; the brutal August sun is not doing me any favors, despite the rain clouds that have been slowly moving in all afternoon.
