I hold up my hands. “It’s not that. I’m not shaming you… I just—” I take the joint from her and inhale, letting the smoke settle in my lungs. Then I meet her eyes, and all the teasing falls away. “Scout, be honest with me. Have youeverhad an orgasm?”

Embarrassment burns her cheeks as her eyes drop to the floor. The silence that stretches between us is almost deafening as I wait for her to confirm what I already know.

Her shoulders bounce in a slight shrug before she looks up to meet my eyes. “I’ve been close… I think… It feels good.”

The look on my face must say enough because she shakes her head and continues. “Look, I’ve tried okay. I just don’t think I can.”

Her confession weighs heavy in the air between us, and my mind feels like it’s going haywire, all my thoughts getting jumbled up. I can’t figure out what’s real and what isn’t or what’s right and what’s wrong…

“What do you mean you don’t think you can? You don’t seriously believe that, do you?”

Her eyes drop to her fidgeting hands in her lap. “Yeah… I mean…”

Oh hell no. That won’t do.

“Wanna bet?” The words slip out before I can stop them.

She jerks her head up, eyes wide. “I’m sorry—what?! You want to bet on whether I can orgasm or not?”

I lean in, my voice low. “No, sweetheart. I want to bet thatIcan make you.”

She shifts in her seat, casually crossing her arms over her chest. “Don’t you think that’d make things weirder than they already are?”

But the twinkle in her eyes is undeniable. I can see it all over her face. She wants this.

“What, because we’remarried?” I tease, tilting my head. “Or were you referring to the bubbling sexual tension?” I hold her gaze. “It doesn’t have to mean anything. Just call it a maritalfavor. Besides, I’m so good I could make you come without even touching you.”

Her eyes go wide in surprise, then she furrows her brows. “Oh, someone’s cocky.”

“I prefer confident. Now what do you say? You in?”

“What’s the wager?”

I flash a slow grin. “If I win, I get the satisfaction of you knowing what I’m capable of.”

“And what if you lose?”

“If I lose, I’ll give you my entire comic book collection.”

Her mouth falls open. “You’re really that sure of yourself? You’re not going to pull some crazy electromagnetic therapy and shock me, are you?”

I can’t help the laugh that escapes me at that wild response. “No, but I like the way you think, Girl Scout. Maybe you’re on to something with that.”

She rolls her eyes, but she doesn’t seem annoyed. Judging by the way her eyes keep flicking down to my lips, I’d say she looks more turned on than anything.

“If you’re really that okay with losing your comic book collection, then who am I to stop you. I bet it’s worth a pretty penny?—”

“So, it’s a deal?”

“As long as you keep your word and you don’t touch me, then, yeah, it’s a?—”

I’m standing up and tossing her over my shoulder before she can even finish her sentence. “Luka… what the hell are you—?” She squeals, kicking and wiggling to break free from my grip.

“I’m about to change your whole goddamn life.”

My heartbeat pounds in my ears as my eyes slowly adjust to the darkness. My body is a live wire, buzzing with need. Fueled solely by my hormones and over a decade of wet dreams about the girl next door. My childhood best friend, who’s clearly still far too innocent and naive for me to have any business fooling around with. And she’s just presented me with a challenge that I’m not sure I’m capable of resisting… even if I was sober.

Quite frankly, the only thing that could stop me right now is Scout showing any signs of resistance, looking even remotely like she doesn’t want this, too.
