“Well, I’ve already scheduled for your lunch to be delivered from the sandwich shop down the street, but if you’re not home, I’ll tell the housekeeper to just put it in the fridge for you.” He picks up my phone from where I left it on the counter last night and hands it to me. “Keep this on you, so I know you’re safe, especially if you go for a walk, and if you don’t mind, could you set it in focus mode if you plan on being away from it?”
I look up from my breakfast in confusion, and Sam holds up his hands.
“I’m not going to stalk you; I just like knowing you’re safe, okay? It makes me feel better knowing you’re out there alone in this big city. Anything could happen. In fact, scary shit happens to women all the time. I’m just being cautious.”
“Fine,” I say, rolling my eyes.
Sam sets down his fork and braces his hands on the counter, his expression morphing from playful to serious.
I slowly look up.
“I will not apologize for being protective about your safety, Magnolia, and I don’t appreciate your careless attitude about it.”
“Yes, sir,” I whisper.
“That’s much better.” He puts his plate in the sink, then walks behind me and gently kisses my cheek, the smell of cedar and citrus lingering in his lips’ wake. Without thinking, I rub the spot his lips touched. He shaved this morning, and his smooth face feels completely different from last night’s scruff.
“Have fun today. I’ll see you tonight.” He turns on his heel, and then he’s gone, leaving me with a flood of memories in his wake.
After finishing my breakfast, I load our breakfast dishes in the dishwasher—I don’t care that a housekeeper is coming; it’s the least I can do to make their job easier—then grab my phone and head to my room to get dressed.
My phone buzzes with a new message.
Sam
I just wanted to let you know I haven’t been able to stop thinking about our kiss last night. I don’t know what kind of guys you’ve been with before, but they’re all insane… Have a good day, sweetheart.
I smile, letting the compliment sink in. A girl could get used to this. I bite my lip as I consider my response.
Are you sure I just didn’t have a great teacher?
Sam
I may be a great teacher, but I can’t take credit for that. I can’t wait to find out what other hidden talents you’ve got hidden up your sleeves… You’re just full of surprises.
What are you talking about???
Sam
Your secret smoking hot body and your kissing were both huge surprises… not to mention your curiosity with ass play with the butt plug…
I told you it wasn’t like that!!
Sam
I guess only time will tell…
I can’t believe you. Do you get off on embarrassing me or something!?
Sam
Or something… As long as you’re mine you should get used to it.
Have a good day, sweetheart.
I read the message over ten times, my belly twisting and turning flips at his words. It’s all part of the agreement. You’re not really his, so calm down.
I’m pulled back down to earth when another message lights up my phone screen.
