Torie gasped.
Christopher didn’t know what to say. At least with Johnnie’s treachery, he’d been aware of what words were spoken. Even with the recordings that Megan somehow got, she could hear the actual conversation. This time, he had no knowledge and judging from her expression, he might never know.
“You’re a mother. You’d make my child suffer?”
“I was calling to help your child. I was going to release money to you every quarter on his behalf.”
“I-I see. Well, I apologize—”
“Keep it,” Megan interrupted. “I was willing to overlook everything else, but my tolerance only goes so far.”
“Why didn’t you tell me what you were calling for?”
“Why didn’t you give me the chance to explain fully?”
“You baited me!”
“I don’t have time for those games.”
“I apologize.”
“I don’t care.”
“Outlaw—”
“I’m done, Torie. Ain’t nothin’ more for me to say to you or about the subject. I gave Megan control.Youfucked it up.”
“But my son—”
“Be lucky you get to keep the money you have,” Megan said, stalking to where his phone sat on the desk.
“You’re some piece of work—"
Megan disconnected.
Moving away from the door, he approached her cautiously. She dodged him before he reached her and headed for the exit.
“Megan, baby—”
Hand on the knob, she halted, but didn’t turn. “Did all the boys know about Torie? Your texts? The deal? Everything.”
That’s what Torie had revealed. He’d been in the conference room working out the details. That’s why the boys were there. He’d taken them to give Megan some peace and to send Torie with Molly like she was his dirty little secret.
After Jo’s eyes surgery, he’d intended to come clean. Then, someone sent Megan the videos. Either to sabotage his marriage or to divert his attention. Whatever the fuck was happening, Megan’s vulnerable mental state and Jo’s illnesses were playing right into the assfuck’s hands.
Whoeverthat fucking dead man walking was.
“Kendall made Torie sign a non-disclosure agreement,” Megan told him, still in position to bolt.
“I hadn’t thought about that.” He cleared his throat. “So, you knew about the contract when I went to see about Rebel?”
“Kendall told me everything when she came back upstairs.”
Of course she had. “I intended to tell you everything. You can ask them.”
Megan’s shoulders heaved. She was processing his confession. He hoped—
“You’re an idiot,” she snarled finally, yanked open the door, and left him standing alone in his office.
