“I know this is infringing on your generosity, but I need a huge favor from you.”

“A ride,” he guessed, sighing.

Her eyes flared in surprise. “How did you know?”

“I gave you my fuckin’ cigarettes and my fuckin’ money. Can’t think of nothin’ else.”

“So can you?” she prodded, rocking on her feet.

“I’m on my bike.”

Her eyes lit up. “I’ve never ridden on one.”

“I thought you had a cage, so why you need a ride from me?”

Her brow lifted.

“A car,” he clarified, so used to talking to Megan he forgot civilians wouldn’t understand some of his lingo.

“My car’s in the shop. I’ve been taking Ubers to work, which means I spend even less time with my kid. I don’t want to be late, so I always reserve one earlier than needed.”

“Fuck, Torie, I’m so fuckin’ sorry you goin’ through all this. I’ma talk to Megan and see what she come up with.”

“She’s still healing, Outlaw,” she said quietly. “And her youngest daughter is facing a life-threatening illness. It wouldn’t be fair to put my problem on her. If you think she’d help, you and I can figure out what that would be and go from there.”

“You and me can’t figure out fuck-all. Megan—”

“It doesn’t matter,” she interrupted morosely. “As soon as the holidays are over, I can start paying extra toward the repair bill.”

“Ubers not cheap.”

“No,” she said sadly. “It takes a big chunk out of my paycheck, but I don’t have anyone to help me.”

He’d definitely introduce her to one of the brothers. Doc Will was under club protection because of how well she always looked after Megan. He could do it for Torie, too.

“Lemme think this through. I’ll figure something out.”

“Thank you. I haven’t gotten a lot of rest lately. Worry keeps me awake. Lack of a car does the rest.”

Christopher frowned. That shit wouldn’t fly. Jo needed her to be alert. “I’ll take you home tonight, and then have one of the brothers pick you up and bring you home until your car is seen to.”

“I needed a new transmission, but I can only afford small payments. But I needed to put money down. That’s why I missed last month’s rent.”

“It’s a fuckin’ pity the work already done. We coulda got it done for free.”

“You and the Mrs.?”

“Me and the club. We own repair shops.”

As repayment for her excellent service to Jo, he’d get her straight. Although it annoyed him that she lived on the other side of town on the outskirts of the city limits, it pleased him that he could repay her many kindnesses.

Chapter Eleven - Ryan

“I don’t know what he’s done, Christy, but I’m begging you don’t take him from me. Please.”

His mother’s words from two days ago bounced in Ryan’s head. He’d never heard her beg. He’d heard her bitch.

As a matter of fact, she’d bitched him out after Uncle Christopher allowed her to take Ryan and Devon. By the time, they reached their log cabin, she’d worked herself up so much, she’d shoved him into the house.
