The shadows bounced around them, making it nearly impossible to see Ryan’s expression. He released an audible sigh.
“What does Bash want? How do you know him? Why is my dad involved with him?”
“I met him through friends.”
“You have those?”
“Fuck you, Rice Krispy Face.”

Rory wouldn’t show how much the words affected him. “All right, Mighty Mouse Body. We can trade insults all night. Unfortunately, I don’t have time. I have to see to my mom.”
“Why should I help you?”
“Helping me protects the fucking club, Ryan. What’s wrong with you? It protects our mothers and our fathers—”
“My mother’s a cunt and my father’s a beta boy.”
“And you’re a fucking idiot, so you fit in. My father—”
“Is probably safe, Rory. Uncle Johnnie has been paying Bash to lay low, with extra thrown in, to keep Kendall and Matilda safe, while he sorts out the real matter with Brooks.”
“And you know this how?”
“I talk to Bash, from time to time. He’s been taking 50Gs a month from Uncle Johnnie. I guess he’s bored, so he decided to ignore the payments and come to Hortensia to fuck with Outlaw’s children. He’s Christopher’s brother, too.”
“First, you’re a disrespectful assface. Second, if he’s Dad’s brother, then I fucking know his relation to Outlaw. And why fuck with the cousins?”
“He can’t very well fuck with your mom and sister, since your father is paying him to keep them safe.”
“I’m so fucking confused.”
“Your usual frame of mind, cuck.”
“None of this makes sense, asshole-fuckbrain. Why does my father have to pay Bash to keep my mother and sister safe? What’s the ultimate fucking goal?”
“To send Meggie away. She’s tied into the club’s ownership, thanks to her father. She doesn’t know anything about it. There was a big meeting almost a year ago. It was only supposed to be Brooks Redding at the Scorps’ mother chapter, but the attorney went to your dad when Bash threatened your mother. Uncle Johnnie thought he could handle the situation without going to Outlaw. He thought—stupidly—that Bash had a smidgeon of honor. See, Cee Cee paid our great grandfather and Sharper Banks to keep Outlaw, Big Joe, and K-P alive. Later, Big Joe did the same with his bitch and his cum squirt. He was also a cold ass leader and made oodles of money for the club. From what I understand Cee Cee supplemented Big Joe’s funds and paid for Bailey, her ignorant mama, and Mortician and Digger. Great Grandfather wanted to rid the world of refuse, but Cee Cee had an odd bond with Big Joe. Of course, the stupid motherfucker put everything in his daughter’s name, leaving her as vulnerable as a duck in a hunter’s scope.”
If Ryan had punched him in his fucking face, Rory wouldn’t have been as gob smacked. “What?”
“It’s an intense and twisty tale.”
“Aunt Meggie owns the club?”
“The buildings and the grounds,” Ryan corrected. “Bash thinks she’s standing in the way of his claim to part of Dweller revenue.”
“But she doesn’t know! Has he ever thought to justtellher? Better yet, go to Uncle Christopher.” Which was exactly what his father and Brooks should’ve done. Those two dumb asses.
“Bash pisses himself at the thought of facing Outlaw. He figures anybody who could take down their old man isn’t a motherfucker to fuck with. Outlaw fucking shoots first and asks questions later. Even if Bash got Outlaw to a meeting and planned an ambush, Bash is convinced Outlaw would take down a few motherfuckers with him.”
“Bash can’t be that afraid of Outlaw if he’s decided to fuck with his children.”
“Bash is warped in the brain, so who the fuck knows what his reasons are. I think he’s trying to forceyourfather’s hand. Bash has a massive amount of documents, but they are all copies. For some reason, he thinks Johnnie has obtained the originals and he’s furious.”
“Why would he think that?”
