Digger snickered. “However else I feel about her, Meggie stand ten toes down for Outlaw and she always have.”

“What the fuck does that mean?” Cash asked.

“Yeah, you’ve kind of been a dick to her lately,” Johnnie said.”

“Bruh.” Digger shook his head. “If that’s not a dick calling a dick a dick. Wait…”

“Yeah, fuckhead, you just called yourself a dick,” Cash said.

“I didn’t mean to. All I’m saying is Johnnie been a dick, too.”

He couldn’t deny that. He’d been a dick to everyone. “Your point? Not that it matters. My behavior shouldn’t dictate yours and vice versa.”

“Meggie made a lot of sense. I always saw her as the reason Outlaw sank or swim. Fuck, bruh, we needed her when she first got here because she got his head on straight, then she got so fucking annoying, flitting through life with a fucking smile.”

“You really don’t like that woman, do you?” Cash said.

Digger shrugged. “I do. Most of the time. Sometimes.” He scratched his jaw. “Fuck, I don’t know. It’s been so long since Meggie been a wild little bitch, I fucking forgot what a temper she got. The last few years, she been a spoiled, Barbie ass cunt.”

“You do know the last few years she took portions of the money we found in that basement, invested it, and increased our collective wealth?” Johnnie asked.

“Of course I do! Boss was good with numbers,” Digger grumbled. “Meggie should be good at something else other than fucking and sucking Outlaw and pushing his babies out.”

“Are you okay?” Johnnie asked in all seriousness.

“As if you fucking care. You’ve been creating fucking anarchy yourself. Don’t think I’ve forgotten how you fucking bragged about manipulating Outlaw into negotiating peace.”

“I like our lives—”

“I don’t,” Digger interrupted. “If Bailey leave Mort or if Meggie die, maybe shit might get back to normal.”

“I’m not listening to this bullshit,” Johnnie said.

“Why? I don’t have no old lady anymore. I got a wife. Meggie encouraged Bunny to return to tutoring, so she did. Instead of letting my woman go, she convinced her having two jobs is good. So I have to take care of our children while Bunny living her best life. All because Meggie can’t keep her fucking mouth shut.”

“Bunny didn’t have to follow Meggie’s advice,” Cash pointed out. “Maybe, she’s hiding behind that excuse to keep the peace between you and her.”

“My woman not like that. She speak her fucking mind. Anyway, if that’s the case, it just turned me against Meggie. She took Prez from us. She took Mort from me—”

“That was Bailey,” Johnnie said.

“It wasMeggie. It was ‘cause of her my brother met Bailey. It don’t matter because, now, she took my girl. Things was fine when Bunny worked for Meggie. They took care of the kids together. I went over there and ate almost every day. Outlaw talked to me about club shit while they cleaned up, then suddenly that bitch told my bitch to find a teaching position if it made her happy.”

Before Cash or Johnnie responded, Christopher guided Megan toward them, with Mortician, Val, and Stretch following behind.

“I see CJ now,” she said.

Johnnie glanced toward the private gate just as CJ closed it.

“Goddamn, Prez, you spit on the little motherfucker,” Mort said.

“Nope, just came real hard when I made him.”

Megan groaned, shaking her head at the laughter.

“Hey, Shortie,” CJ greeted, leaning down and kiss Megan on the cheek. “You’re okay?”

“I’m fine.”
