“You showered while you were away.” Another sob escaped her and another and another, until gut-wrenching ones wracked her.
He slid behind her into bed and tried to take her into his arms but couldn’t immediately because of her fierce struggles. Her full strength hadn’t returned, otherwise she would’ve fucked him up. However, it gave him the advantage. He waited until she tired herself out and could do nothing else except collapse in defeat.
“Megan, baby, I swear I ain’t cheated on you. Iswear. You ain’t goin’ to like what the fuck I did do, but I ain’t stuck my cock in no other bitch.”
“If you haven’t touched another woman, why did you shower?”
“I didn’t say I ain’ttouchedanother girl today. I said I ain’tfuckedanother girl.”
“What do you mean? You were still with another woman.”
“For a reason, baby. Two girls sat on my lap and I had to make it seem like I intended to fuck them.”
She elbowed him. “Go away. Of everything that Johnnie said today, when he told me you would find another woman, I defended you, Christopher! I told him you’d nevertouchanother woman. If he was right about that, he must be right about everything!” She scrambled to the other side of the bed and got out, swaying on her feet.
“What the fuck you talkin’ about, Megan? What the fuck Johnnie been sayin’ to youafterI told him to stay the fuck away from you?”
“Everything you told him—”
“I ain’t told that motherfucker nothing.”
She fell into the nightstand and grabbed it to steady herself.
Christopher shot to his feet and rushed around to the other side of the bed, wrapping her in his arms. At first, she tried to push him away, then she clung to him and sobbed so pitifully Christopher’s heart broke.
Earlier, he had a laundry list of motherfuckers to kill. Now, he didn’t care. He just wanted Megan safe and healthy and loving him.
“You know me, Megan.”
She didn’t answer, so he took her face between his hands and stared into her eyes, searching for his girl, craving that look that told him all he needed to know.
“You know me. If I fucked another bitch, I would tell you.”
Tears slid down her cheeks and she lowered her gaze, focusing on his shirt.
He opened his mouth to reaffirm what he thought she knew—his love for—and commitment to—her.
But she interrupted him before he uttered a word. “I believe you,” she said. Her look of adoration rose in her eyes, stark and vulnerable. She swayed and leaned against him again. “Don’t ever…I couldn’t bear it.”
He lifted her in his arms and kissed her. “I know, Megan. I ain’t never cheatin’ on you. You it for me. My everyfuckinthing, baby.”
She pressed her forehead against him. “Just…please…please, God, make him stop. Please.”
Christopher froze. Not only because Megan sounded so fucking tired, but in all their years together, she’d never begged him to makeanymotherfucker stop.
Especiallythatmotherfucker. Usually, she went out of her way to prevent fucking ups.
For a long time, Johnnie had a piece of Megan’s heart. It was tiny, but still fucking his.
Now, she’d finally given Christopher a chance to spill what he’d wanted since that motherfucker strangled her.
Johnnie’s blood.
Chapter Thirty-Nine
“Dan, you remember my daughter?” Mommie smiled between them. “Harley, this is Dr. Daniel Stokes.”
Dr. Stokes was a handsome man with bright brown eyes and thick blond hair. If Harley remembered correctly, he was older than Mommie, but younger than Daddy.
