JaZuria took a delicate sip of her water. “What an adorable way to lay claim on your man,” she purred, setting the glass aside. “It’s an odd demand, but cute.”

Roxy sat her wine glass on the table with unnecessary force.

“Being amongst the privileged few to call my husband ‘Christopher’ is charming,” Meggie agreed sweetly. “But it isn’tmydirective. It’s his.”

Next to her, Mr. Davis finished his salad and dabbed his napkin at each corner of his mouth before returning it to his lap.

Meggie smiled at him. “I hope you find everything to your liking, Mr. Davis.”

“Mr. Davis?” her familychorused like a group of juvenile delinquents, though she clearly heard Christopher’s outrage.

“How the fuck his bitch call my ass Christopher but you callin’ this motherfuckerMr. Davis, Megan?”

“Er, JaZuria said to call him that, Christopher,” Meggie said testily. “This isn’t about us. It’s about CJ.”

“Ain’t takin’ that away, baby. Earlier, I was feelin’ fuckin’ lower than shit cuz I embarrassed him, but that was me. No motherfucker settin’ foot in this fuckin’ house and disrespectin’ you and I don’t give a good fuck if it’s for your ma—”

“Dinah dead, Outlaw,” Digger grumbled, though Meggie couldn’t see him since he sat further down the table on her side.

She’d never used all the extensions before. It made the table so long, each end extended beyond the area rug. Without Bailey, the place settings were uneven. However, if three more guests had come, Meggie would’ve had to move the dinner party to the breakfast room, where their family get-togethers took place.

That would’ve gone over well.

“No, assfuck, ain’t no ghosts in this motherfucker.”

Christopher’s amused tone and the rising chuckles drew Meggie back to the conversation. Hearing Mr. Davis’s laughter eased her. Seeing JaZuria’s scowl didn’t.

“We saw Grandma walking the other night, Uncle Digger,” Ryder said calmly.

“Yeah, Ryder, Grandma was holding her head under her arm,” Ransom said. “The eyes were missing.”

“That shit not funny—” Digger started.

“How could she see, stupid?” Axel demanded.

“She’s a fucking ghost, assfuck,” Ryder grumbled. “She don’t need eyes! She can see ghostily.”

“That’s not even a word,” Ransom said.

Elbows on the table, Meggie covered her face and groaned. She’d ordered all her children to behave because the night was so important to CJ.

“No, she won’t take my eyes!” Axel cried. “I’m not afraid of no ghost. She’ll take Uncle Digger’s. He’s afraid of her.”

“How the fuck you sicking that bitch on me?” Digger demanded.

CJ roared with laughter. “They’re fucking with you, Uncle. Grandma Dinah doesn’t visit.”

“I don’t fuck around with ghosts, little bruh!”

“Woooooooo,” Ransom said, his voice trembling. “I seeeeee you—”

Christopher grabbed his bottle of beer and swigged. “Shut the fuck up or get your ass beat.”

Immediately, her sons calmed down.

CJ whispered something to Jaleena, and she giggled. JaZuria glared at her husband and lifted her eyebrow. It seemed as if they wanted their kids to disagree.

JaZuria looked up and down the table. “I think everyone is finished, Meggie. Where’s your bell to alert your servers?”
