“Tell it to Christopher. Buy condoms for him.”

“You out your motherfucking mind? It’s not my business to tell that man to cover his cock.”

“Finally, we agree.Noneof it is your business. But if you want to make it so, call Christopher and tell himexactlywhat you told me. Word for word.”

Frowning, Digger went still. “I thought you liked me.”

“I can say the same thing. I thoughtyoulikedme.”

“I do. I’m just frustrated—”

“Shut up, Johnnie Jr. If you liked me, you’d talk to me like we both have sense.”

“Did you just call me fucking Johnnie?”

“I’m done with you, Digger. Mortician, I’ll call you—”

“Running away from the conversation.” Digger snorted. “It figures.”

“There’s nothing I want to say toyou,” she replied. “Your mind is made up, no matter what I say. Just as mine is. Nothing more can be done for me in the hospital for the time being. Jordan will discuss my options whenever I make an after-stay appointment. My doctors can prescribe pain meds and sedatives for at-home use.”

Now that he thought about it, Mortician understood why Meggie was so fucked up over Johnnie’s gaslighting. She was still healing, medicated, and worried about her newborn, her husband, and her other kids. Johnnie fucking loved to pounce on vulnerability.

“I’m sorry I snapped at you,” Mortician said at the sound of more sniffles. He intended to punch the fuck out of Digger for hurting her feelings. “As for Bailey and Harley, they love you and CJ. They’re just going through it.”

“They can go through whatever they wish, but they aren’t targeting my son. I’m sorry if he has lied to Harley and hurt her. I promise I’ll talk to him. My issue is the blame Bailey’s placing on him foryourabsence. And, may I add, it’s her fault. She should’ve stopped Harley immediately.”

“Maybe she agree with her,” Mort said with a careless shrug, fronting like a motherfucker. It crushed him to even think that, though he couldn’tunthinkit since that conversation.

“If she does, then shame on her,” Meggie said flatly. “You aren’t measurable by your bank account, but apparently she’s only happy with appearances.”

Very little turned Meggie into a harsh critic. Fucking with Outlaw and disparaging her children were amongst the few.

She was his president’s woman and he’d taken his life in his hands enough tonight, so he let her rant and shut the fuck up.

“Maybe, she should’ve found a man like Johnnie: suit by day, biker by night, and idiot all the time,” she fumed.

“I love Bailey, Meggie, so don’t tell me we would’ve been better off without each other.” Her words hit a nerve because Roxanne made a similar observation. Maybe, Baileywould’vebeen happier with Finley, or whatever the fuck the little motherfucker’s name was.

He would’ve fit her high-end office and polished image.

Meggie sighed. “I’m sorry,” she said, the fight leaving her. “I’m just exhausted. Johnnie is…is volatile. He could come in and strangle me. Christopher would walk in and find my body and then his life would be destroyed.”

“Stop with the melodrama,” Derby growled.

If only itwasmelodrama, but once Johnniehadalmost strangled Meggie.

“Johnnie would never do something so idiotic,” Derby finished.

“Derby?”

“Hello, Meggie.”

“Mortician, what are you doing withhim?”

Derby glowered at the phone.

“He’s at my poker table,” Boy said dryly.
