If Outlaw hadn’t been within arm’s reach of Rebel, she would’ve thrown the fist she’d balled and probably knocked Ransom out.

“Bitch!” he yelled and ran away from her, blowing out the club with the force of a tornado.

Ryder and Axel flipped her off, then took off running, too.

“Baby, leave your brothers alone. Your ma need to rest,” Outlaw said.

“Okay, Daddy,” she said sweetly, kissed his cheek and followed in the wake of her three bad ass little brothers.

“That was too easy,” Diesel observed.

Meggie nodded. “Take me home now, son,” she ordered CJ.

“Do you want the blanket, Mom?” Rule asked as CJ started toward the door.

“When we get upstairs,” she said, smiling as the claps and whistles started again, drowning out the rest of her words.

CJ halted before he walked out of view. Meggie threw a kiss to Outlaw.

“One toast, baby, then I’ll be home.”

“I’ll be waiting,” she promised. She caught Mort’s gaze. “Hey,” she said softly.

Mort tipped his head. “Meggie girl.”

“I’m crushed,” Derby teased.

“You’ll survive,” she chirped.

“Come with us, Rory,” CJ said.

“I thought you’d never ask,” Rory said, smiling.

“Can I come, Ro?” JJ said.

“Of course, you can,” Meggie answered. “Dev, Ryan, you’re welcomed, too.”

“What about me, Aunt Meggie?” Grant teased.

“Of course you can—”

“Megan,” Outlaw gritted, “how the fuck you going to rest if you have a trail of lil’ motherfuckers in your wake?”

“I’ll make sure she’s fine, Dad,” CJ promised, and walked out carrying his mother and leading his cousins.

For a moment, Outlaw stared at the door, so Mort decided to step up. He walked behind the bar. “Serve bottles of beer to whoever don’t have a drink,” he instructed. “I’ll settle the tab tomorrow.”

In the time it took everyone to get a drink, Outlaw seemed unhappy and distracted. Worry was written all over his face. They tried to draw him into a conversation, but he wanted to get to Meggie.

Mort knew the feeling. He would give anything to go to Bailey and iron out their differences. All that happened before Harley turned against him shouldn’t be so detrimental that their marriage ended. Digger was right, though. Bailey was in Mama Bear mode and anything he said that upset Harley would piss off Bailey.

“I would like to toast Josephine Dinah Caldwell,” Mort said, raising his bottle of beer. “Congrats on your new daughter, Prez. May she have a long and happy life.”

Outlaw smiled at the clinking of bottles and well-wishes. It seemed to ease not only him, but everyone else, too.

Although Meggie had her shortcomings, she was proficient at reminding Prez how much the club meant to him and how deeply he was needed.
