I smoothed a palm over my messy ponytail and rubbed my eyes. “Well, I’m up now. Just give me a few minutes to shower and get dressed.”

“Is that coffee shop next door open?”

“Latte Da opens at six.”

Chris nodded and bent down to pet Kringle, who was already leaping on his hind legs, trying to lick his face, again. “Need me to take him for a walk?”

I crossed my arms. “You want to walk my dog for me?”

He shrugged and stood. “I like dogs. And I need to kill time while you make yourself decent.”

Decent?I don’t know why what he said bothered me so much… but it did. Like stroking a cat’s fur the opposite way. I cringed, and a shiver tumbled down my spine. “No, that’s okay. Kringle and I will go for a walk a little later.”

One dark brow lifted over his bright green eye. “Kringle?”

Oh, hell no.First, this guy was going to barge into my apartment at 5:00 a.m., then he’s going to mock my dog? That was where I drew the line. “You got a problem with my dog’s name?”

“Nope,” he answered quickly, popping the ‘p’ sound in the word between his full, pouty lips. “Just…figures. That’s all.”

Like the good girl I am, I let that comment go and spun around to run upstairs to my shower. I had more choice words for him, but the last thing I needed was to end up on Santa’s naughty list.
