Fresh hotness threatened to split me in two as Levi filled me, thrusting through his entire orgasm, never slowing until he suddenly sagged without warning, resting on top of me, just enough to feel his weight press me down but not enough to be uncomfortable. I was trapped under him in the best of ways.

“I’m sorry,” he murmured.

“For what? I asked you to fill me.”

“Not that. Coming in here. Intruding I … I couldn’t help myself. But I shouldn’t have.”

“Maybe,” I admitted. “Maybe not. Maybe I wasn’t being as silent as I could have.”

He stiffened. “You wanted me to hear you?”

I shrugged. “I don’t know what I wanted. But I’m not upset this happened. Are you?”

“Not at all,” he said, shifting off me and rolling onto his back. “Not even close. I would have regretted it if you did, if I’d pushed you into it, but …”

Laughing, I rolled onto my side, ignoring the leaking from between my legs. “I think you know me well enough by now, Levi, to be aware I would tell you to get out if I truly didn’t want you here.”

“True,” he said, smiling. His arm curled, trying to force me into a cuddle.

“One moment,” I said, stealing away to the bathroom so I could clean up in peace.

As I returned, I gave his chest a kiss, letting my nipples drag along his skin as I did, fully aware of how much he enjoyed that.

“Gods, you’re so sexy,” he murmured sleepily as I snuggled in tight, my head on that same chest that rose and fell slowly with each breath, the rhythm threatening to put me out.

“I know,” I teased. “You’re welcome.”

He laughed softly before subsiding into silence. One hand came over and started stroking my hair idly. Neither of us said anything, just enjoying the closeness. We lay that way for an unknown amount of time.

I was just starting to doze off on Levi’s chest, still securely wrapped in his arms, when his head twitched, moving sharply to the side.

“What is it?” I asked drowsily. “Did—”

My nostrils flared, and I came wide awake, the sudden acrid smell familiar.

“Smoke,” Levi said, flinging the covers off. He didn’t have to worry about moving me, I was already sliding out of bed.

“Jakub!” I shouted, rushing for the door.

Chapter Twenty-Three

Sarah

“Wait!”

Levi got there first, sliding his body between the door and me.

“Move.” I ordered. “I have to get to my son.”

“We will,” he growled. “But if the flames are on the other side of the door, you will burn yourself by opening it and feeding it fresh oxygen.”

My mouth was already open to protest, but the words died on my lips. He was right. I wasn’t thinking.

“Stand back,” he ordered, yanking the door open as soon as I did.

There were no flames in the hallway, but smoke was slowly flooding it from under a different door.

“Jakub!” I shouted, fear for my son’s well-being breaking through for a moment.
