Mila frowned. “I thought you wanted to … you know. Take advantage of me.”

“Never,” I growled.

I wanted to fuck her. Very, very badly. Throw her to the ground and mount her, claim her here where anyone could watch and see that she belonged tome. That I owned her bodyand soul, and nobody else could have her. The urge to do just that was nearly overwhelming, to the point that I started leaning toward Mila, my biceps twitching, eager to grip her with their strength.

But what I didnotwant to do was take advantage of her. I wanted her to come willingly. To want me to take her. Simply granting me access to her body was not enough. I already had that, if I so desired, I simply had to think it. I wanted more. I wanted hermind, too.

“What do you want, then?” she asked.

“A date,” I said, likely surprising us both as the word came out.

Mila blinked. “That’s … it?”

Another shriek.

I grimaced. If I went back in there and fought Irrtok, it would mean revealing things I didn’t want to be revealed. So many years of work would be unraveled.

All for one woman? There was no way it could be worth it.

“Two dates,” I said firmly. “Real dates. You have to try to have fun.”

Mila nodded emphatically, her eyes bright and happy. “Okay. Two dates. I can do that. Now, gosave her. Before it’s too late!”

“You promise you’ll act like they’re real?”

“I promise!” she shouted. “Now, go, please.”

I dashed for the building after memorizing the half-smile that had snuck across her face as she answered my final question.

Chapter Twenty-One

Korr’ok

Iburst through the door and skidded to a halt.

“Hello, Irrtok,” I said as the red-glowing entity turned toward me, revealing itself to be a human body inhabited by the Fae.

There was a long moment as it stared at me. “Well, well, well. Now, isn’tthisunexpected,” it chuckled.

I glanced at Lily, who was wielding a rolling pin along with several vicious-looking cuts, though they didn’t look fatal. “Your father’s body, I take it?” I asked, gesturing at the droopy-skinned human that had attacked her.

“Yes,” she squeaked.

“Go outside,” I ordered. “Mila will help you while I deal with this intruder.”

“Intruder?”Irrtok hissed. “I did not ask to be here, to be bound to this body. Someoneforcedme.”

“That’s what you get for being a weak sack of shit.” I grinned broadly while taunting him.

“It’s been a long time, son of Char’ok. Much has changed since last you walked the halls of House Duloke,” the Fae said with wicked laughter.

“Well, one thing I knowhasn’tchanged,” I hissed, wondering what he’d meant by that, “is my ability to kick your ass.”

The saggy, drooping skin of the human body housing Irrtok shriveled and burned, flecks of ash floating away on a nonexistent breeze, revealing the incorporeal being behind it all.

Irrtok was as real as I, but histruebody was back in Faerie, held against his will until he was released. Here, called as he was by magic, he was little more than an outline of his true shape.

But he felt pain, nonetheless. I flicked a hand forward, a red dart flying through the air. It split in half, then half again, and then again until dozens and hundreds of glittering shards of red magic were zeroing in on Irrtok.
