Please,came back the mental cry.I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to, I—

The mental plea cut off with a sharp squeal as I triggered more pain centers. It was too easy. I considered shredding her mind then and there, leaving her broken and unable to function within human society. It was only a fitting punishment for her crime.

Twicenow, she’d reached out and sunk her mind into my own in what I could only assume was an attempt to bind me. Why she thought thatshe, a mere mortal with no magical abilities to speak of, could controlme, I did not know. But I intended to show her she was well and truly out of her league.

I could do whatever I want with you, I told her through the connection, raking one mental fingernail down her spine, activating every pain receptor she had. Her body twisted and arched in her sleep. I couldn’t see it, but I could feel it, the muscles writhing in agony.

P-please, she begged, her mind exhausted, on the verge of shutting down.

A smile came over my face as I realized she was in her bed. Alone.

Pain.

She cried out through her sleep, her body twisting this way and that. Lilith begged me to stop.

Pleasure.

That time, I hit her with a wave of ecstasy, activating all the receptors in her breasts and between her legs in one wave, teasing her with my control. The mental gasp had my cock twitching.

For a human.

“Raargh!”The angry roar exploded from me so abruptly that Dachor returned his axe to a guard position, thinking we were renewing our battle.

With one more slash of pain, I flung Lilith’s mind back into the void, ignoring the pained shout for help as she drifted back into her own realm.

“What the fuck was that all about?” Dachor asked as I hunched over, taking deep breaths, working to control myself.

Losing control as a demon, even there, in a place that wasn’t the mortal plane or the Underworld, but somewhere in-between, was a bad idea. If I let too much of my magic slip through …

“Nothing,” I growled, shaking myself free, containing myself once more.

Dachor eyed me suspiciously, the emerald irises glinting in the overhead light. He clearly didn’t believe me, but I really didn’t care.

“Whatever,” he said after a minute. “Shall we resume?”

“No,” I rasped. “I have to go.”

Dachor stared at me in irritation, then grunted and headed for the exit without another word. I didn’t take offense to it. That was just Dachor. He lived for violence, breathed it, and when deprived of it, wanted nothing to do with the new situation. That was just who the immortal was.

I left as well, but I had a purpose. It was no longer random. Whoever Lilith was, she was working on purpose now, trying to bind herself to me. I didn’t know why, but I did know one thing: she couldn’t be allowed to try again.

It was unlikely she would ever succeed. Her mind was too weak, too untrained, and she flat out did not possess any real magic within her. But why risk it? Only the stupid would ignore that, and I was not an idiot when it came to magic.

“Come.”

The voice was muffled as I banged on the doors, and I knew I’d probably awoken Dannorax, but I didn’t care. It couldn’t wait. I pushed open the heavy doors and entered his chambers. Fueled by anger, I barely even noticed the oppressive humidity, shouldering my way through the wet air until I was at the edge of the platform.

Bones crunched as the dragon’s jaw moved. I realized it wasn’t that Dannorax’s voice had been muffled by sleep, but he’d been talking with a full mouth. Blood and innards dripped down from his jaw.

“What?” he snarled, upset at the interruption.

“I’m going after her myself,” I stated, not making it a question.

The dragon’s eyes opened wide, his equivalent of raising his eyebrows, the look inviting me to speak more as he continued to chew on his meal. I didn’t bother to look too closely at what it was.

“The human I told you about earlier. I’m going after her. No Gray Knights. She’s mine to bring in.”

The dragon’s head tilted to the side as he watched me closely. “What changed?”
