"I know I hurt you, disappointed you, and broke your trust." He was looking at me with so much pain that I wanted nothing more than to hug him tightly and never let him go. But he didn't give me a chance to do it. "And I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, princess. You have no idea how much it pains me to see you upset because of my decision not to tell you about Rose. You can't imagine how scared I am of losing you."

I was surprised by his words; I didn't expect him to acknowledge his mistake so quickly, and I didn't expect him to give me such a sincere apology. But what shocked me the most were the tears that fellfrom his eyes.

In such situations, he was an emotionless machine, a robot who could handle anything that included feelings with a stoic face and dominating stance. Yet, here he was. The incredible Sebastian Thorn was crying and pleading, claiming that I was the light in his life.

"One question, Bastian," I whispered after a long pause when I had at least partially organized my thoughts. "Would you choose her over me?"

It was stupid of me to ask that after what he'd just said to me, but I needed to hear it. I wanted confirmation. Hiding his contract with her was idiotic, yet I still trusted him when he said he had feelings for me. It would take some time to return to where we were, but I was willing to do anything to save our relationship. I only wanted him to tell me the correct answer.

"Electra Marietta Hernandez," he started solemnly, making me giggle. It was the first time he ever said my whole name. "I will always choose you over everyone and everything."

He was piercing me with his eyes; the emotions swirling in them changed in milliseconds. I saw no signs of pain or sadness. Only love remained.

"I will always be by your side, princess. Not in front of you to command you or behind you to follow you." He wiped the lost tear that escaped my eye, and I leaned into his touch. "I'll be next to you to support you on your way, to help you fulfill your dreams, to listen to your worries, and to reassure you that everything will be okay."

He wrapped his arms around my neck, caging me in his embrace. I buried my face into his jacket, fighting the urge to cry.

"Although, you know," he whispered between the small pecks. "There are some situations in which I will gladly be behind you."

I frowned, not knowing where he was going with this. But him being him, he didn't disappoint, and of course, he had to ruin the moment.

"Usually, when I fuck you senseless and make you scream my name." He squeezed me even tighter, and I laughed, imagining all kinds of inappropriate things. "I'm sure you'll want me behind you much more often than next to you."

"Youhad to say it, right?" I pulled away from him, flashing him a fake-annoyed glance. He kissed the tip of my nose, again cupping my face.

"It's the truth, princess," he stated innocently, shrugging. "We both know that you've dreamed about me fucking the life out of you since the first day."

I flashed red in a second, and the memories of me fantasizing about my boss flooded my mind. It wasn't long ago when I fought with myself every day to not jump on him in his office.

"You're such a cocky asshole, Mr. Thorn." I giggled when he furrowed his eyebrows. He was about to tell me something, but the car's sound in the distance broke the spell around us.

"I need to sit, sweetheart," Bastian muttered, letting me go. I nodded, watching him as he almost fell on the moist ground beside the road. His handsome face twisted with pain, and he inhaled some irregular breaths.

My heart painfully skipped at least three beats in a row. Fear was spreading through my body again. I didn't have time to muse about his condition because I needed to stop the car. I stood in the middle of the road so the driver could see me, and I impatiently waited for the vehicle to show up.

For those long seconds, I watched Bastian fight with himself not to pass out. My stomach twisted with dread when I realized why he'd declared his love for me. He was in much worse condition than I thought, and he was making sure that he said everything he wanted me to know in case he wouldn't survive.

My entire body violently shook when I was mentally pushing the car to go faster in my direction. I didn't have much time, and I didn't have many options to save my love.

When the old truck finally showed up, Bastian was lying on the ground, holding his abdomen. I wanted to run to him, but I overcame it because my only chance was a sixty-year-old driver who thankfully noticed me and stopped.

"What's going on, darling?" the man asked when he exited the car, staring at me like I fell from the sky.

"We were in an accident." I pointed to Bastian, grabbing the man's arm. "I need to get him to the hospital."

"Okay, okay." The driver saw my distress and was willing to help us, yet the complicated situation worsened. While I was talking with the man, Bastian lost consciousness, and he rolled down the small hill next to the road.

I screamed when I realized he wasn't where I left him, and I was about to run to him, yet the man from the car instantly stopped me.

"Sprint down." He pointed to the sharp turn in front of us. "You'll catch the cell reception behind it. I'll try to reach your guy."

"But—" I wanted to object, but I was quickly cut off.

"Girl, you need doctors here."

I nodded, and with one last glance, I ran as fast as possible with the phone in my hand.

It was the longest minutes of my life. I found the signal and called 911, but Bastian could have been dead while I did all of that. I was petrified of losing him, but my brain and body were still able to function at their highest levels.
