Shay: Hey, are you going to the protest thing after school tomorrow?
Nate: Heck yeah I am. Did you hear that Mr. E is going, too? Standing in solidarity.
Shay: Right on, that’s pretty cool. I know like twenty people who are going. I think it’s gonna be big, like bigger than I expected.
Nate: Nice. I hope so. I mean, this whole shut down thing is stupid. Why did they have to go straight to the final straw, you know what I mean? Like, just tell us some folks are irked and to tone it down, you know?
Shay: For sure. And it’s not like the topics are that provocative or anything. And even if they were, I would want my kid to read about things and think about the world around us. You know what I mean?
Nate: Yep. But people are uncomfortable with anything that challenges their narrative. Especially the older they get. So like, parents and grandparents? We can’t be talking to them and convincing them that too many vaccines are just too damn many vaccines. They’re like, “But polio!” Seriously, pharma and tech’s not the same as it was in the fifties, bro.
Shay: Dude, Nate. I looked into that. Our grandparents got, like, three childhood vaccines. Our folks’ generation got like six or eight. And we’re set to have fifty-something vaccine doses by the time we’re eighteen. Like, what? Something’s not right.
Nate: Yeah. It doesn’t even make sense. If anything, our gen’s sicker than ever. Even if the vaccines are good, maybe the schedule has to be reworked, you know? Maybe we don’t get so many all at once? So you think that’s what this is about? Parents think Seek & Speak’s turning us into anti-vaxxers or something? What’s their issue?
Shay: I don’t know. I think it’s more than that. We’ve had a lot of topics. Trafficking, wi-fi, fluoride, artificial intelligence. Maybe it’s that we’ve talked about a lot of heavy stuff?
Nate: Yeah, maybe. One of my friends made her family throw away all their vegetable oil. So maybe parents are annoyed that it’s hitting home or something?
Shay: Oh dang. Yeah, seed oils are no joke. And pesticides, too.
Nate: For sure. So I’ll see you at the protest?
Shay: Absolutely.
